I suppose this goof thinks the ancient artists used jackhamers to carve their sculptures.
The development of hand tools is how the recovered populations were able to carve softer stone.

They still didn't have the tech for polygonal walls with metal clamps.

I feel I could do that if I had the time and patience with a hammer and chisel...

Post iron Age there is really nothing stopping the construction of a stone megalith other than time.
Still crazy respect to those who took the time to build such amazing structures.
Equally, a lot of it was probably slave or indentured labour so I guess Boo to them?

Quite the moral quandary
Pretty much. A lot of slave labor. And really if you had to hammer at a rock for 8 hours you could probably get a decent amount done.

Ask yourself why they stopped when hand tools became better and there were more slaves available?

Why didn't the Romans go back to the more impressive and earthquake proof ways of construction?

I never said they chiseled the whole thing out….? It took them 3-4 years to finish it regardless.

Most likely they used splitting techniques to get rid of major chunks, then used abrasive saws to rough out the shapes, then the master craftsmen used smaller implements and abrasives to smooth everything out from there.
You need to read up on the enclosure and it’s digging. They cut massive perfect blocks out and built another structure with them , they didn’t just carve out the Sphinx from a standing piece. The head most likely was a big chunk on top but they dig down massively to do it. And it’s a huge area. Huge stones were cut out and taken out.

You come in here, on a month old account and begin lecturing us about megalithic stone work? Who the hell do you think you are pal.

Didn't mean to upset you. If this is a touchy subject for you we can end our conversation.

Because all of the technology was lost and these structures are thousands and thousands of years older than we used to think.

Ice age cycles the planet goes through has messed up the human population more than once.

These civilizations that built these structures went through ice ages and floods after, massively wiping out the population and it took thousands of years for the population to rebound.

Look at all the ancient underwater structures they are finding now. These would have been built during an ice age when the sea level was lower. Then flooded and everyone wiped out. With humanity having to start over each time

Let’s talk about the Sphinx errosion as a perfect example.

The Sphinx enclosure has massive rain water errosion.

There hasn’t been the rainfall in that region to do that for 10k+ years. Then it’s thousands of years worth of erosion to happen. So 13k minimum.

The way the Sphinx faces in the summer solstice lines up with the stars 13k years ago

and also 30k+ years ago(one more star cycle back) it could be 30k+ years older than we think.

and it’s not a lion, it’s a damn Jackle like Inubus.
The way it sits and the head size is obvious. The original head surely was eroded away. And the new pharaoh head was carved. The head is way to damn small.

There were no carvings Or hyrogliphics of the actual construction just modifications

the dynastic Egyptians didn’t build them, they found them and revamped them as their own.

All these ancient cultures Peru etc etc all say the structures were built by someone else previously in thier lore.

Dude, i think they are not megalithic at all. Megalithic is stone monumentals made in the pre-history A lot of that shit in the photos was made by empires.

Its just... I lost my mother to some ancient megalithic ruins, so since then I'm always kind of on edge when they're brought up. You see she was searching for evidence of ancient machinery when she slipped and fell onto an ancient chisel some slave had left there, pierced her jugular and she bled out before help could arrive.

Same with these massive boxes. I think just one of them has crude hieroglyphics from when the Egyptians found them.
He talks about how hard it would have been for these boxes to be put into these tunnels with no sunlight reaching down there.

Are you referring to dolmens?

I have no explanation for them but they show signs they were made by the same civilization.

I know they didn’t carve the thing out of a free standing rock above the surface, I’m talking about once they got the limestone excavated and were left with the general layers of stone they wanted to work with.

As far as the block excavation, there are TONS of theories as to how they did it, but using abrasive saws / pipes, splitting wedges, and manpower with limestone seems to be the most plausible answer. Limestone is much easier to manipulate and carve than a lot of other stone out there (in general, some limestone can be hard but it’s usually soft) so doing it with more manual types of tools wouldn’t have been a problem.

I remember the day. A Dark day.
She was still warm when i came across her body.

the Romans et al may not have featured the megalitic structures. But even the largest megalith pales in comparison to a built structure from component construction.
Those amazing stone cities and temples and such are nothing compared to these true marvels of imperial engineering - pictures below.

The Imperial goals were different. i.e: Add all the precisely laid stones in the roman roads spanning europ, euraisa and north africa and it equals a feat of engineering, skill and raw effort that is an order of magnitude beyond any individual megalith with perhaps the exception of the great pyramids.
