The cradle of Civilization is widely stated to be Sumer. Sumer got invaded by the Semitic Akkadians who gradually wiped them out . No evidence the Sumerians were exterminated, but what likely happened is gradual assimilation into Semitic culture such that Sumerians ceased exsisting. The Semites were less advanced than the Sumerians, and unlike the Sumerians didn't have a civilization.
Oldest European civilization was Minoan, they got invaded by Indo-European tribes who were pastoralists and were far less advanced than the Minoans. The Minoans got wiped out and were supplanted by the Mycenaens and Greeks (both Indo European tribes).
Egyptian civilization is much older than Nubian, Greek, Persian and Arab but Egypt was invaded and controlled by all these cultures and Arabs ended up imposing their language and religon.
Indegenous Indian SubContinent civilization (Indus Valley Civ) was one the most advanced early civilizations but they were invaded and got taken over by far less advanced Indo-Europeans who were pastoralists.
China was more advanced than Mongol society when the Mongols invaded and controlled parts of China.
Indo-Europeans invaded and gradually wiped out the Elamites in what is present day Iran, through gradual assimilation. Elam was far more advanced than any Indo-European society when they were taken over.
Turkic and Mongol tribes were technologically far less advanced than cultures in the MidEast and Iran, but they still smashed through the area , and up into South Eastern Europe.
The Aztecs conquered the far more advanced Toltec civilization. While Toltecs had built pyramids and temples, the Aztecs were just a wandering tribe.
History is full of barbarian tribes conquering and wiping out far more advanced cultures.
