Or..we can try going back to the early days and the Presidential runner-up becomes Vice-President ? It make actually force both sides of the aisle to work together.

Don't think that would work. As the VP is basically there in case the president dies. The VP basically has no real role.

Doesn't matter how many parties you have. As long as people try to vote "strategically" ("who is most likely to win" as opposed to "who is most likely to adhere to the platform that most represents my interests") a majority of votes will consolidate or stay at home.
Your identity politics games exacerbate things pretty badly.
