All Time GOAT poll

I see a lot of threads lately talking about BJ Penn and GOAT in the same sentence.

Your first sentence contradicts your headline -- if a lot of people are saying Penn is a GOAT candidate then by definition he's part of the conversation.

Nah, that's Sakuraba, a LW (170 lbs without cutting) who actually won a string of fights against LHW and HW monsters like Rampage, Vitor, and Kevin Randleman.

BJ would have beat Sakuraba in a fight at 170 or 155 IMO.

170 lb Sakuraba getting a win over Vitor was pretty damn impressive, but Saukuraba was around 185lbs and on da juice when he fought Randleman and Rampage. He was giving up size, but not ridiculous amounts, and he wasn't really giving up any height at all. He was also subbing MMA pioneers that had little to no submission defense at that time, which is why his win over Vitor who always had BJJ was more impressive IMO. With that said, none of Saukuraba's wins are as impressive as BJ going to a split decision with prime GSP (the GOAT) and beating prime Matt Hughes while giving up almost 20lbs of pure muscle IMO.

Penn is LW goat until someone else gets more defenses and accomplishments. Khabib has a 0 because he barely fought anyone. Thats not an accomplishment in fighting, its a lack of them. They have a tie for defenses. Penn fought and beat more names in his day and top 10 guys in the world though. LW Goat easy. Not MMA GOAT but LW GOAT.

LOL, BJ isn't even ahead of Ben Henderson at LW goat rankings, never mind Khabib

BJ at LW is 11-3-1, Khabib is 28-0 and Khabib has beaten better competition without question. Even if you compare their UFC records, Khabib is more impressive. BJ wasn't even the best LW in either of his UFC runs. Khabib was clearly the best.

Hes not in actual GOAT contention as he was way too inconsistent, but he is an ATG. When he was on form he could be an absolute terror - athletic, well rounded and one of the scariest guys you could have standing across from you at 155.

. and 16-15 if we count the KO by a drunk.
Except we don't and only a moron would mention that in regards to his mma record.

But I agree - he is not in the GOAT discussion. At one time he was but that was around 2007 - 2009. Then he got lazy and it went downhill from there.

And now he's another former ufc fighters who's gone down the rabbit hole and is now ranting about vaccines and mah human rights.

Lol. Penn-Edgar 1 was a robbery.

If you are going to lie about which fights you have seen, at least make it convincing.

Not a robbery. I still remember waiting for that decision to be announced cus me and my buddies were in disbelief that Penn might lose. And sure enough he did. He knew it too.

Jones
Gsp
Anderson
Fedor

I really don’t think anyone else is eligible…..Aldo and Mighty Mouse I could tolerate

BJ would have beat Sakuraba in a fight at 170 or 155 IMO.

Penn's only wins above LW are against a single person, Matt Hughes, who was only 15 lbs above his weight class. Sakuraba beat multiple monsters who were that much bigger and more.

170 lb Sakuraba getting a win over Vitor was pretty damn impressive, but Saukuraba was around 185lbs and on da juice when he fought Randleman and Rampage.

He was almost definitely not on the juice when he fought Rampage and Randleman, since that muscle gain happened for the later Shamrock fight (and after his body was a mess at that point).

I don't think he was 185 lbs for those, but if he was, it was no different than when BJ got chubby and 190 lbs for the Machida fight. It wasn't really functional mass--the dude was a WW.

He weighed 186lbs in his fight with page and 183lbs in his fight with Randelman. Page weighed 202lbs I could not find Randlman's weight.

Sakuraba was more solid at 186lbs than BJ was at 168lbs. Sakuraba would fight at 155 and BJ would fight at 145 if they were fighting in 2021. Sakuraba was a natural 170 but was on the juice for sure in PRIDE.

Where are you getting these weights? 202 for Rampage during an open weight fight where cutting wasn't necessary is sus as hell, and Randleman usually fought as HW regardless.

Your second sentence contradicts your first one, and the first isn't really supported by any concrete evidence or even the eye test.

Sakuraba was known for not being on anything until later on by even most fellow fighters in Pride AFAIK, so I'd need some receipts.

Either way, Page, Vitor, and Randleman were certainly on all the steroids, so...

Jones is really hurting his legacy, probably won’t fight for a while.

1. GSP
2. Jones
3. Silva
4. Fedor
5. Khabib

If Marty beats Colby in dominant fashion does this mean he replaces GSP in the poll cause it honestly should. Volk and Khabib should be in this poll as well def over Aldo. Stipe should be in over Fedor etc.
