I came here to talk about the Brundage/next fight slams. I really thought that night would change mma and we'd see everyone in an armbar/triangle trying that slam, since then I've seen it 1x it still hurt the opponent broke the hold, didn't end him so he lost a close UD, but it was a successful move again.Gerald Harris has a technique and has utitlized it multiple times in his career with the forearm across the face. Leavitt used the same technique against Wiman.
Hughes on Newton's was just him getting slammed.Rose got slammed on her head against Andrade.
There were two one night with armbars. Brundage was one of them and that was just the opponents getting slammed on the sides of their heads.
There's plenty non-headbutt ones but the one last night and Rampage's on Arona were definitely headbutts.
Good question. Why wouldnt you just let go the submission and stand up at that point?
Good answer.Sometimes the sub happens instead... Barry vs Struve is an example

There are plenty of examples where the person with the triangle survived being picked up and won:Why wouldnt you just let go the submission and stand up at that point?

Rampages was, for sure. Not sure about this one tonight.
You could go out from your head slamming but the headbutt makes it much worse.I know the back of the head hitting the canvas is no good but I think it's the headbutt that follows causes the lights to go out.
Any thoughts?

Josh Burkman had a nice one on Sammy Morgan in the TUF 2 finale.I know the back of the head hitting the canvas is no good but I think it's the headbutt that follows causes the lights to go out.
Any thoughts?

Primed Shammy was a beast, the above slam was Zinoviev’s last fight, head spiking or anything that could break a neck makes me cringe, had a few of neck and lower back surgeries rehabilitation for either really sucked.By slam, do you mean Powerbomb? If you mean like even takedown slams then no

The fact that this cope about that KO endures 20 years later is insane.
Taking a massive shot to the back of the head is dangerous.
Arona was done whether Rampage's head collided with his or not.
Except in this case--and in most cases where the slam works--the sub wasn't tight and was being well defended. The armbar in particular needs to be being defended well: you don't lift and slam your opponent with one arm that's nearly straight; you do it with your other arm having a firm grip on the arm being attacked and your arms bent so you are in position to lift strongly and keep your opponent's weight close to your body. And once the triangle is really locked there isn't much time to get off a slam.Sometimes the sub happens instead. Its a gamble for both of them
Okay what? How many guys have you seen recover from getting their head dumped onto the canvas from seven feet in the air?
Fighters get put out from slams that start half as high.
