Not only does Jones have to back up all the promises and trash talking he's done in the last 3 years, he has much more on the line than Gane, while Gane has little, if anything to lose.

If Jones loses, he eats crow like no one ever before. The last three years of bragging, promising and belittling his potential opponents will come back swiftly and with a vengeance. He can't say he cleaned out the HW division, he can't say he is the undisputed overall GOAT of MMA. He loses his "undefeated" record, he could suffer a humiliating stoppage that will circle the internet for decades. A loss to Gane, while he is supposedly clean, will enhance the idea that all his good wins came against smaller fighters not in their prime, while he was juiced to the gills.

A loss to Gane means the end of Jones' career. He will not try to work his way back into contention in the HW division by fighting Blaydes, Aspinall, Pavlovich, or anyone else. He will take his paycheck and spend it on coke and strippers, and whatever else he plans to do in his retirement.

For Jones, losing means the dreams are over, but not so for Cyril Gane:

Gane is just entering his prime and a loss means nothing because he has nothing but time. Gane will simply go back to work and work his way back up, which is the mindset of a true career HW.

Not only does Gane have little to lose, he thrives in that mindset. His ability to deflect any sort of pressure and stay loose is one of the most important keys to his success. While Jones instagrams his body transformation, his pad work, his past accomplishments, and belittles Gane's competition, Gane is staying confident and nonchalant. This reminds me a lot of the dynamic between Holly Holm and Ronda in the days before their fateful meeting. Which, incidentally, marked the end of Ronda's massive hype machine, and ultimately, her MMA career.

Hard disagree that Gane has nothing to lose here. He would be 0-2 in proper title fights and have to take an appropriate step back down the ladder.

In fact I am concerned that since both men know how huge of an impact this fight outcome will have on their careers that they might both play it safe and we may wind up with a sparring session or "chess match" for those who prefer to appreciate the emperor's new clothes.

Agree. Jones needs to win this, and I think he will with wrestling.

Those who point out how he looked in the more recent (years old) fights that he was standing and not doing well and are expecting that going forward, I think you're so far off. If fucking Francis can throw some knee pads on and out wrestle Gane, an actual wrestler should/will be able to easily.

I hope I am wrong!

True, it's not nothing. As for the sparring match, I fully expect one for at least 1.5 rounds. They will both be cautious and methodical at first but something will give later on.

Great fighters lose all the time and bounce back
Aldo, gsp, even boxers like manny got knocked out

But yes he will definitely eat crow more than most fighters who lose, simply because so many people hate him
He does have more pressure and more on the line though i totally agree

I see it as a one or done for Jones. If he wins, sure he goes on to fight Stipe, why not? But if he loses, is he really going to try to line up a non title fight against someone who will probably knock him senseless?

Im no fan of Jon Jones whatsoever, but I think he has more tools and like he said himself "The fear" is keeping me motivated.
I think that fear that he mentioned is what makes him dangerous as fuck here.

I want him to get flatlined but I don't think it happens here.
There's a reason he waited until Ngannou left, because he knew that power could even the playing field.

He just signed an 8 fight deal though sir.

I mean, I think they are both just fine. If Gane loses, it is against GOAT and if Jones loses, people didn’t expect him to be the same regardless and truth be told, it is only natural that he cannot be the same guy, even if he still roids like hell. His and Ganes legacy won’t really suffer because of this loss. Also, they both can gain A LOT so I think it is just fine for both.

I feel that the pressure's on Gane more than Jones. If Jones loses he's still the goat. If Gane loses he going to be hit with the, he was over-rated and never that good crap. Jones has sealed his legacy unless he gets popped again for gear.

Those threads "all the pressure is on" aren't really useful.

You are fighting a trained killer for millions and one little mistake can cost you years of your life, your face, your health, a bone.
But sure, you are under pressure because of some trash talk you done 2000 times.

Most of the pressure for sure. But Gane has some as well. Losing a second title fight wouldn’t help his cause. Different opponents but still.

I agree, pressure is squarely on Jon. Jones is a legend who talks a lot of trash. Gane is seen as second rate by most of the world in comparison. However with all that said this pressure has never bothered Jones before and he was always the favorite while always talking some level of trash.

This is true, he does very well under pressure historically speaking but we've never seen him in desperation mode, which could happen if Gane shuts him down and lights him up on the feet
