Not only does Jones have to back up all the promises and trash talking he's done in the last 3 years, he has much more on the line than Gane, while Gane has little, if anything to lose.
If Jones loses, he eats crow like no one ever before. The last three years of bragging, promising and belittling his potential opponents will come back swiftly and with a vengeance. He can't say he cleaned out the HW division, he can't say he is the undisputed overall GOAT of MMA. He loses his "undefeated" record, he could suffer a humiliating stoppage that will circle the internet for decades. A loss to Gane, while he is supposedly clean, will enhance the idea that all his good wins came against smaller fighters not in their prime, while he was juiced to the gills.
A loss to Gane means the end of Jones' career. He will not try to work his way back into contention in the HW division by fighting Blaydes, Aspinall, Pavlovich, or anyone else. He will take his paycheck and spend it on coke and strippers, and whatever else he plans to do in his retirement.
For Jones, losing means the dreams are over, but not so for Cyril Gane:
Gane is just entering his prime and a loss means nothing because he has nothing but time. Gane will simply go back to work and work his way back up, which is the mindset of a true career HW.
Not only does Gane have little to lose, he thrives in that mindset. His ability to deflect any sort of pressure and stay loose is one of the most important keys to his success. While Jones instagrams his body transformation, his pad work, his past accomplishments, and belittles Gane's competition, Gane is staying confident and nonchalant. This reminds me a lot of the dynamic between Holly Holm and Ronda in the days before their fateful meeting. Which, incidentally, marked the end of Ronda's massive hype machine, and ultimately, her MMA career.
