I think all the police department and city really want is for Smollet just to come out and admit that he did it and apologize. Instead this fool is quadrupling down on this and still claiming his innocence. If you know that you are 110% innocent, then why woudln't you have your day in court to take down the people that are trying to do you wrong?

I can't wait until the 2 Nigerian brothers come out and tell their story publicly. You know that it's coming.

I don't blame him for not wanting to take this to court - especially with the deal he somehow managed to get. The fact that they sealed all the documents relating to the case is pretty telling though, and you know if there was any evidence exonerating Jussie the PD and Mayor wouldn't have gone so hard at him and the state attorney for basically letting him off...

I just got done watching her being interviewed pretty aggressively and when asked about bringing lawsuits Alger response was “while we’ll weigh all our options, more than anything, Jussie just wants to move on and have this behind him”. ... i would love it if Jussie brought lawsuits against the brothers and the Chicago pd for defaming him. I’ll hold my breath on that happening though for obvious reasons.

Also, why did Jussie edit out the phone convo with the brothers 1hr before the attack when the police asked for his phone records? They eventually got that info from the brothers phones but why did Jussie hide it?

The cops had Smollet dead to rights. He talked to the brothers before and after the staged attack and deleted their numbers from the document that he gave the cops unknowing that the cops already had the records and just looked for the numbers that were missing.

It's mind boggling that he got away almost clean. There is still the Federal investigation over the letter that he sent himself.

to me it's demoralising because it shows the cronyism in Chicago is so brazen that they don't give a fuck. How many high level politicians in Illinois need to go down for corruption before they get their shit together. That has consequences beyond the Jussie Smollett bs. Having faith in key institutions goes to the very heart of having rule of law.

It reminds me of white collar crime, where a hedge fund manager will conspire to rob folks of millions of dollars, ruin lives, take that money and spend it on trips and yachts. And when they get caught, they only get like 2-4 years and spend their time in some cushy jail. Yet some broke kid in the ghetto sells some weed or commits petty theft and gets twice the time. Having money and having connections is everything there. If this wasn't some celebrity liked by Obama's family, Kamala Harris and others, this wouldn't be happening. US justice system is fucked up.

I haven't really followed the details, but it sounds like it wasn't simply a matter of Smollet being wealthy (I'm not disagreeing that wealthy people with high priced lawyers have an advantage obviously), but rather he attracted some powerful and influential people who saw his case as something political. I assume the right people leaned on the right people with the right amount of pressure.

First of all this "Deal" should have included some verbage that Jussie must acknowledge guilt and offer contrition. I have zero problems with the Assistant DA saying it's customary for Defendants to receive a Fine and Community Service for 1st Time Offenders. However, he's in serious backtrack mode after being called out.

In a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon, First Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Magats, who took charge of the case after State’s Attorney Kim Foxx stepped aside because of a conflict of interest, emphatically denied that the move to drop the charges against Smollett was a signal of any weakness with the evidence.

Magats said the office reached an unwritten deal with the defense in recent weeks to drop the charges if Smollett forfeited the $10,000 bond and did community service — an arrangement he characterized as a routine way to resolve nonviolent charges against first-time offenders.

"The bottom line is we stand behind the investigation, we stand behind the decision to charge him,” Magats, a career prosecutor who’s been with the office for nearly three decades, told the Tribune. “The fact that (Smollett) feels that we have exonerated him, we have not. I can’t make it any clearer than that."

Personally, I think he got Big Timed and his boss threw this whole deal together without his knowledge and by-passed him completely. My guess is that he didn't even know Jussie was doing Community Service this last weekend as part of the deal to get the charges dropped.

The state’s attorney’s office later released a letter from the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition that said Smollett had performed community service — but just for two days, on Saturday and Monday.

The letter said Smollett spent several hours in their store managing sales and later gave suggestions to staff. He also took questions from students about the music and film industries.

Later, though, a spokesman for Rainbow/PUSH, which was founded on the South Side by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, said the civil rights organization was unaware that Smollett’s assistance had any connection to his court case.

"He was just a volunteer, " Don Terry said.

lol... Pathetic. So he does a Q&A sessions with other volunteers... But whatever. It would have been hilarious to see him picking up trash on the side of the road like most plebeians get when they have to do community service.

And now Jussie's attorney is even claiming there was no deal and that the charges were dropped because they didn't have the evidence to convict Smullet.... OMG, this just gets better and better

The state’s attorney’s office simply dropped the charges, according to Holmes. Smollett agreed to forfeit his bond “so he could go on with his life and get this over with,” she said.

I’m 50-50 on this being a political favor vs. Kim Foxx just trying to cover for a family friend. I suspect she isn’t very bright and might have thought she could pass her intervention off as routine.
