Alistair Overeem HW GOAT?

And that's completely normal. When a fighter destroys or gets destroyed is a perfectly reasonable time to reflect on them: to debate their greatness. I could see your point if it was some new fighter, but you can't say that about fighters who've been in the game as long as Overeem. The HW was scared shitless of him when he came over from SF. The losses he's had have been so dumb- he was wrecking every single one of those guys until getting caught, but now he's fighting smarter and he's on a roll. I don't see why we can't talk about what his legacy could be...

because people jump the gun too quickly. if this thread came out before the fight it would be a bit more understandable and not simply jumping on the celebration band wagon. even every champ automatically gets thrown into goat contention. lol brock lesnar and cain were up there

If any other fighter in the Top 5 pumped themselves as full of Roids as he did they could probably eclipse what he's done.

To be fair, he would be one of the most uniquely credentialed fighters in history if he were to get his hands on a UFC belt. I still think Werdum has the most impressive win ledger and Fedor had the greatest championship run but it would be foolish not to include Overeem in the discussion if he were to snag UFC gold.

if by discussion you mean something like top 5 then sure. his k-1 stint gets thrown around but to be honest it was a pretty easy run other than the spong fight. he fought a one arm sakhi and old man aerts. his kickboxing accomplishments arent much when you compare it to say fedor's multiple sambo gold medals. a sport much more closer to mma.

What an arrogant reply to an MMA fan who has keenly followed Overeem since Pride. Do you know anything about Overeem? Then you know I'm not basing his greatness on one fight. He's beaten Werdum, Lesnar, Belfort, Gokhan Saki and Peter Aerts, to name but a few. 20 years in the game- 15 at the highest level and I'm basing it off one fight? Do you know anything about MMA?

Tool.

Do you know anything about MMA? Even if he does win the belt that resume is far from GOAT like. If you are naming fighters that fight two weight classes below you as one of your best wins, then you are not the GOAT

Loss 14 times...

Let him win the UFC belt first, then IF he defend a few times maybe we could talk about this again..

CC is still better. Their kickboxing careers are not comparable, CC is greater kickboxer and its not even close. In MMA, Overeem is collecting good wins and is closing in, but still Mirkos Pride GP dwarfs anything Reem has won in MMA.

Btw, Reem is 8th HW on my all time HW list.

Fair point but it's still pretty damn impressive for an MMA convert to record wins over Badr Hari, Spong and an albeit diminished Peter Aerts. I also agree that Fedor is absolutely the man and that it's not far-fetched at all to think that he could still make an impact in the UFC given that the top 10 remains largely populated with his contemporaries (eg. Arlovski, Mir, Barnett, Rothwell, Hunt, Overeem, Werdum).

He would have to have beaten more HW GOAT candidates first. Hard to argue with Werdum's stake seeing as he has finished Fedor, Noguiera, and Valasquez., all 3 of whom have been argued as the HW Goat.

If Werdum beats Valasquez again and can avenge his loss to JDS then it will be difficulty to argue Overeem or anyone over Werdum even by a longshot

OMG He's doing good, why to people go from 0 to crazy so fast?

Let him at least win the fucking belt first.

I think they are basing their reply on your hypothetical situation that seems very unlikely from ever happening. It could, but it's highly unlikely.

At this point in time, the scenario you posed seems more like a fanboys wet dream and less like a possible scenario that could ever happen.

It's one of those "waste of time hypothetical scenarios", unless you have a magical crystal ball that we aren't aware of.
