Just thinking, if Alistair Overeem gets his hands on the UFC belt (And I think he will...) then defends it a couple times, would he stake a claim to being the best Heavyweight of all time?

It will mean he's a Pride Grand Prix semi finalist, and won belts in Dream, Strikeforce, K1 and UFC.

He's fought beast after beast and had a rough journey to the top, but I think that is proof of his greatness. He's been able to come back from adversity. I certainly don't think he's in his prime, but I'll be so stoked for him if he gets hold of the belt. He's a true MMA legend.

lol sherdog. if someone wins their last fight they are in goat contention, if they lose then they were never good and should retire

He would have to defend the belt until he retires, and have 7 or 8 fights IMO
He has some stupid losses at UFC and doesn't have a good resume at Pride either

Trying to determine who is the GOAT is like looking for god, you're never going to find one because there isn't one.

Absolutely not. He's got good wins and a couple great ones here and there, but accomplishment doesn't translate to ATG placement. He would absolutely be the most accomplished heavyweight of the last generation though, as he ofught everywhere and won belts everywhere

no way. He's a guy whowill allways be only one foot away from getting ktfo. Would be the most inconsistent "Goat" ever.

Never say never but hes gonna have to be a little more consistent from now on...

- Win UFC HW belt

- Get some title defenses

Once he crosses off that checklist he can be a candidate.

Most certainlly. You would be able to attribute his losses to him getting of the horse meat, and once he got off it, and the other fighters did as well, he was the best of the bunch.

overeem is like the amir khan of the hw div, hahah

Nah. If he beats Werdum/Stipe for the title and defends it once against a top guy I'd put him in the top 3 with Fedor and Werdum. That's a big if.

What an arrogant reply to an MMA fan who has keenly followed Overeem since Pride. Do you know anything about Overeem? Then you know I'm not basing his greatness on one fight. He's beaten Werdum, Lesnar, Belfort, Gokhan Saki and Peter Aerts, to name but a few. 20 years in the game- 15 at the highest level and I'm basing it off one fight? Do you know anything about MMA?

Tool.

His chin is going to let him down before that happens

If you know anything about mma then you know its a world of tears and frustration to hitch your wagon to the Reem.

How is it a big if? If I seem to remember correctly he served Werdum the most embarrassing moment in MMA last time they fought. He had Werdum begging him to come to the ground

HW GOAT who has loses to Browne, Rothwell and big foot

these threads always pop-up after somebody wins. its almost cliche to be honest. if he lost there would be 'was overeem ever any good' or something along those lines. its pretty funny too.

in all honesty, i like reem and will cheer for him in his upcoming possible titleshot, but goat status? he has too many losses and disqualified himself with the PED fiasco

Depends on the outcome of Doom/Stipe

I think Stipe's Reem worst match up at HW, Reem would beat Werdum again IMO
