What was wrong with Romulus? It was kids being stupid kids. I thought it was better than all but the first 3 films
Hard to explain. I was annoyed the entire time I watched it. Rolling my eyes even at the blatant ripoff of iconic lines and just plain uninspired plot. You never really give a shit about the characters as they had no development.
But they kept stealing lines. I rolled my eyes almost every time.

"Get away from her you bitch"
There are times and places when those lines can be atolen and add to a sequel. Top gun Maverick did this perfectly

Cgi Ash/rook was stupid. The exceptionally fast gestation period of an alien when the face hugger had been on her for only a few minutes was a dumb carryover in the films starting with AVP. It just screams of trying to force action faster with no buildup. But this movie took it to next level.
We has the same complaint with Oram's gestation in covenant and forgave the AVP movies because those are supposed to be silly.
Kane had the thing on him for half a day or more and then was out cold For hours While they made repairs in alien before he woke up and went for food.
The kid melting to pieces in seconds from a few tiny drops of acid causing his chest to cave it...yes its shown as potent acid, but shit, Hudson got his entire arm splashed with more acid in Aliens when hicks shoved a shotgun in a xeno mouth and wasn't falling to pieces.
Its like they remember the dad's arm falling off in AVP requiem and said "lets do that acid!"
Maybe its consistent with how it melts metal in 1 or 2, but it reacted differently to flesh in previous movies before Requiem.
The facehuggers "blind but attracted to heat made no sense. The fuckers were flinging themselves at faces behind superglass and smashing into glass trying to get them just 20 minutes prior. "lets just raise the temperature in the hall and tiptoe guys"
Also just having all those face huggers made no sense.. they come from eggs and a queen in canon, aside from the not canon directors cut of alien 1 where it shows Dallas and Brett being turned into an egg. The android Ash/rook basically implied they recovered the xeno Ripley shot out from space, extracted its DNA without melting needles on acid blood and used a 3d printer (they show it midway through printing an egg in the cryobay) to somehow make face huggers and black goo.
in the end, they were going for the "we reverse engineered the engineer goo" but it came off as senseless bullshit.
The worst part of resurrection was the humanoid alien and they managed to throw it in even though everyone universally hated that the first time lol
Prometheus and Covenant were superior films even with their flaws.
