ALIEN: COVENANT (First Reactions from World Premiere)

Trying to reconcile that plot description with Prometheus and the Alien movies just gave me a headache.

I almost don't want to figure anything out now. Seems like too much work for too little a payoff.

Just make a good film goddammit.
 
After reading all of the updates I think this is going to be a very well done movie. Can't wait.

I enjoy the one where the Alien DNA mixes with a space station and it becomes a colossal Alien creature

I swear everything leaking about this reeks of disaster. Why make promethesus and then abandon the story but not continue the Ripley angle directly. Ridley Scott is losing it big time and he used to be one of my favorite directors
 
I dunno about this one.. Prometheus to me was like having sex with an un-energetic fat chick. Now don't get me wrong, back when I was single, I wasn't turning down nothing but my shirt collar. But man.. You have to put SOME effort into it...

I'll keep my eye on this one and check out some reviews when it's released.

Colonial Marines de-lousing an infested space station. I'd cosplay for that one!

That's how I prefer it too. I don't acknowledge the trash known as Prometheus. You can tell Ridley had no fucking clue about anything and just made it up on the fly. It's so stupid. When I watch Alien, I still wonder what that elephant creature is, because it's certainly not a suit with a funky bald 9 foot ultra-white guy inside.

I would love to see a film rendition of the novel Aliens: Genocide, where a second, mutant strain of red xenomorphs develops on the homeworld and the two species battle it out while a crew of marines infiltrates to steal some precious royal jelly for the pharmaceutical kingpins. Think regular ants vs. fire ants.

The novel that came after (Aliens: Alien Harvest) had a similar premise of going to the homeworld to steal royal jelly, but they were a misfit crew of thieves and were using a robot AI disguised as an alien (and christened "Norbert") to do the infiltration. It was a good novel too.

Did you find it challenging to cheer for or be invested in the protagonists when their goal was bringing back alien goo for the evil company?

In Genocide they did a good job of developing the personalities of the Marines, who were very similar to the crew seen in the 1986 film. It was just a job to them, and they were going to make a lot of money which would buy them new gear and such.

The protag of Alien Harvest was this scientist specializing in miniature robotics who was once famous and successful but had developed health issues and was falling into financial ruin trying to market a tiny mechanical ant. A beautiful professional thief approaches him with a scheme to put together a crew to steal royal jelly from the alien homeworld. The scientist sees an opportunity to promote his robotics and scales up his technology to create a robot xenomorph. On the outside, it looks like a normal xeno, but underneath it's purely mechanical. The robot's AI is very polite and even develops a friendship with the ship's dog. It sounds weird on paper but you grow to care about Norbert as a character as well.

Overall all the novels do a great job of developing the protags, showing them as just being everyday working people who just happen to be employed by ruthless corporations and having personalities and motivations of their own. Really not too different from modern life.

That's a great idea and a great challenge, making a Wilson type of character out of a robot xenomorph.

Had great potential. I thought it missed the mark in a lot of areas. It ended up being an entertaining enough watch, but the notion of Ridley Scott returning to Alien after all those years of the franchise being abused had me really optimistic.
 
So if I understand correctly, the concept for the new Alien is:

- Called Neo (new) morph.
- White instead of black.
- Bursts from back instead of front.

OMG deyz turned the whole paradigm on its head! Radical...

I'm coming off as being really negative here, I know. And it might turn out to be a great concept. Just sounds stupid when they put it in summary like that.
