The last one hardly succeed because of it. Though besides David I guess her character was one of the few bright spots.

Honestly I'd rather a bad Alien movie to a good Prometheus movie. Lucky for us it's looking like we'll get two!

You would rather have an Alien movie than Prometheus? Think about what you are saying..

At least with an Alien movie there's the possibility of suspense, horror, maybe some sweet marine on Xenomorph action.

What do Prometheus movies have going for them, besides roided up albinos, braindead protagonists and terrible retconning?

The planters of the seeds of life on Earth, and their wish to destroy Earth with Xenomorphs and other bio-tech weaponry is more interesting than another fkn monster movie. You really need more marine on alien action? Sheesh.. Rent a video, there's 10 of those.

Yeah, unfortunately I only know of 2 good ones :D Or maybe 2 1/2 if you count Alien 3

Prolly not rush out to see this.

Damnit, Prometheus.

My theory is that David has been experimenting with the black goo.

He replicates versions of himself to conduct experiments splicing the black goo/alien DNA with his synthetic biology.

This makes sense especially when you look at the first film. The android Ash tells Ripley that it is the perfect organism having "no delusions of morality."

This also explains the biomechanical design of the Alien.

It makes sense considering mankind's creation of a synthetic humanoid gives birth to beings that could destroy mankind.

Not coincidentally, a cornerstone theme in Scott's sci-fi is the consequences of humanity abusing advances in science and technology. There are things man is not supposed to do, and there are places man isn't meant to go.

All of this and more seems to resonate with the idea of a potentially limitless consciousness with alien genetics.

I feel like i like it less the more i watch it too,esp since it had so much potential.

"oh hai guys, wanna crash our ship into that one to save the earth and shit?"

"OF COURSE"

"O'rly?"

"yea rly"

"K"

Lol

Enjoy them shooting the scary monster.. Maybe one will be "right behind you," and maybe people will be killed off one by one. Man, you sound like a deep, interesting individual.

We need good sci-fi 10,000 times more than another Alien replica. Could have still had Xenomorphs, I guess.

I was way alone on Prometheus, I was never really into Aliens so I wasn't expecting anything in that regard. It made the film way more enjoyable and despite some of the odd character choices and damn near everything Charlize Theron was doing, I liked it a lot and am pretty psyched for the sequel.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm hoping the sequel stays more sci-fi than monster horror.

Prometheus fucked up on a few major accounts IMO.

-Biggest was straying too far from the Alien universe. The script was originally called Alien Engineers and they it was changed into this related world of Alien.
-So now we have a film thats trying to get away from the Alien universe and doesn't follow the scifi horror or action formula from Alien or Aliens. This leads to more alienation of fans(no pun attended)
-Add on some really stupid choices in characters like petting the alien snake. Lets face it.... if people have to debate on why the scientist tried to pet the Alien it's a colossal mistake to have it in the movie. It's a three stoogies sequence in a movie trying to take itself too seriously.

But seriously, if they wanted to make a serious attempt at a unique scifi story, they could have done that and not had it take place in the Alien universe.

But the way they did it couldn't possibly have been any worse for pissing off fans of the franchise.

Prometheus could have had redemption. Good enough answers to the questions in the first movie, and a lack of really sh*tty characters could have redeemed the whole thing. Maybe include an old character that is played by an actual older actor, for example.

I'd rather have a good movie than Prometheus.

It had a lot of cool ideas, but it fell short. If it's a choice between a "good" movie that treads the same ground again, or a "bad" movie that bucks the trend, I'll take the movie that's actually entertaining more often than not.

Let's not pretend Prometheus was some sort of hotbed of new ideas and originality. Sure, it was different than the Alien series, but that doesn't mean it was original sci-if.

You know what really pissed me off about Prometheus? The reveal that the Space Jocky was in fact humanoid and that what looked like some cool alien elephant skeleton in Alien was in fact some kind of dumb space suit. One of Geiger's xenomorph's more enduring qualities is just how alien it in fact looks compared to life on earth. But naw, well just have giant albino skinheads in Prometheus.

If I wanted more humanoid aliens I'll watch Star Trek, where every single planet in the Milky Way Galaxy is inhabited by endoskeletal bipeds that breathe oxygen and have two eyes, two ears, a mouth and a nose.

That would be impressive considering he's just a head.

Same. For all the dumb stuff, demystifying the Space Jockey was the worst. It was about the same thing as midichlorians. The wrong answer to a question we weren't asking.
