While I am hyped for Covenant, I'm not overhyped. Still cautious about reviews from fans or professional film reviews.

Basically, I'm waiting for Chris Stuckmann's review to get 100% hyped for it.

Meh, I don't trust those reviews. I'll wait for @Dragonlordxxxxx 's review. He seems to call it like he sees it without an agenda.

Anyone remember what the Fan reactions for Prometheus were like? Just sayin'...

ALIEN: COVENANT Prologue Shows What Happened to Shaw and David After PROMETHEUS

Holy sh*t. They could just make a movie out of that. That was written better than Prometheus lmao. Welp, you all got me to see the new alien movie, so good job on that one.

Wait. So are we all just pretending Prometheus wasn't awful?

It had so much potential; so much sci-fi potential. It really was only shit compared to what it SHOULD have been. It was interesting, but ruined. I would be interested to see a true sequel all day.. if they turned THAT into shit, I would complain even more.

Great reviews. Can't wait to see this. Not worried about "scary" parts of the movie. The Alien movies were never scary to me to begin with.
In sci-fi, real sci-fi, "horror" is always backseat to other more interesting story points.. even with the first Alien. I hope that isn't lost.

Don't know about that. Horror was at the forefront pretty heavily with the first one. I mean shit, the marketing slogan was "In space, nobody can hear you scream." It was essentially a slasher flick.

They SOLD it on that.. But what made it a great movie that lasted were the other great things about it.

It had other elements obviously, that makes it a much more rich experience than your typical slasher flick. I'm just saying that horror did not take a backseat to the other themes going on in the movie. It's a horror movie, through and through.

Don't worry guys. You won't have to wait for @Dragonlordxxxxx 's review. Doesn't come out for awhile in the US. I'm in Australia at the moment. Seeing it on the 12th. Tune in for my review.

I think the sci-fi is what gave it its popularity long term. It made people say "damn, that was a cool movie." Maybe with Alien, it was pretty damn close and could go either way.

I think what set it above within the horror genre(or slasher sub-genre) was the threat. It wasn't some zombie in a hockey mask, or whatever, running amok in a city. It had a believable aspect to it(thanks to the sci-fi aspect), and the fear of being trapped in space with nowhere to run, with a threat that could conceivably exist, strikes a chord that a more fantastical movie wouldn't. When you make the isolation and fear believable, a horror flick will usually succeed and keep people coming back to explore the other elements and themes the flick had going for it.

I think "Alien" and "The Thing" are very similar in that regard.

Don't hump the bunk with this one Ridley!

"Definitely better than Prometheus". Well that was a low fucking hurdle to clear...

Also, these twitter reactions are almost always positive, even for movies that suck.
