Alien (1979) vs Aliens (1986)

They're equal to me but very different. Alien is a creepy, slow burn film with a lot of mystery. Aliens is an action packed rollercoaster that never lets up. Alien is probably the "better" film as far as a critic would see it, but I prefer Aliens and that's the film I always choose to watch. I never get tired of it and it's endlessly quotable, it set the standard for sci-fi action films that has rarely been met.

Agree 100% but personally prefer Alien over Aliens. I like the mystery in not knowing anything about the alien and believe it to be far more terrifying as a murderous rape machine instead of an insect.

As much as I love Bill Paxton....

Harry Dean Stanton > Bill Paxton

Why not both?

Aliens

It's one of my favorite movies of all times. Top 3 easily

I just ate an entire extra large supreme pizza and 4 toaster strudels.

The pizza was one of those giant pizzas you get from Walmart.. They are much bigger then the normal sized extea large pizzas. The one I'm talking about comes in a cardboard box.. It was amazing.. Haven't had pizza in awhile

I just had to let it be known.. I ate the whole thing and I'm not even really full

Aliens - Director's Cut.

It simply is never going to be surpassed as the GOAT SciFi/Action/Horror movie. And if you leave out 'horror,' only Terminator 2 is as great or perhaps surpasses it as a SciFi/Action movie.

It may sound like I'm knocking Alien when I say this but after the chestburster scene it turns into a slasher movie.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only weapons the crew has against it are the flamethrowers and the lame cattleprod, and they're completely defenseless besides that? So why did the xenomorph be so damn stealthy taking them out one by one? It could have been far more aggressive. It was like 'why does Zombie Jason so sneaky when hunting camp counselors?'

And of course, the lame rubber suit, and the typical 'lead female character is the only survivor' horror trope.

Still a 9.5/10 film.

different genres, i love aliens. the directors cut makes a great film even better, and pretty much everyone agrees on that. but alien is a great film, and started my love of horror scifi stuff.

Alien for the story and horror

Aliens for the action

Maybe Alien, but I like Aliens more. Can you guys recommend movies about group of people trying to survive against monster/s? I love those movies. Predator, The Terminator and Aliens are my top 3 movies. Also Michael Biehn is the most underrated action heroe.

555, in the pipe.

The actors not being ready for the chest bursting scene is good, but 80's wins out for me

I honestly don't know when we'll see a movie like Aliens again. Big budget, practical effects, every scene is visceral. Tough female soldiers that aren't there to serve an agenda, a true sense of camaraderie. I need to go watch this again soon.

Equal but different imo. There was a lot of ‘cool’ factor in Aliens that lends to the films atmosphere being interesting.

I look at it this way -today, you can’t have one without the other. If you watch one, and haven’t seen the other then you’re doing it wrong.

Aliens

One reason I enjoyed it over the original was the film explored more of the Zenomorph. How it formed the walls, we the audience got to see more of the body of the Alien, how it moved. Also the cast of Marines, the banter back and forth. Hilarious
Accurate marines banter too

Both are masterpieces that have a completely different style and pace. The first was incredible for its time (go back and watch the trailer, it still stands the test of time and gives me goosebumps) and Scott was a master at building tension in that movie.

Although the second one is considered more action there is still plenty of horror in it and moments of dread, my favourite aspect being the “beep” on the radar. Cameron sure knows how to make a sequel.

Love both but slightly prefer the original.
