Pretty crazy that she won, but its good to see these kind of extreme Liberals. She wants to get rid of ICE and the Border Patrol. She is very radical and will rattle a lot of feathers. I think she is more grass-roots and more anti-establishment than Trump and Sanders.
A 28-year-old Democratic Socialist just ousted a powerful, 10-term congressman in New York

Yeah impressive, be scared GOP
Yeah she's really no threat in any capacity, but she is cute I won't deny that. Her district is largely hispanic, she is quite pretty by south Bronx standards. Her district has many welfare/gubment handout recipients, and lots of illegals who probably have familial ties to legal residents of the area. No wonder she wants to get rid of ICE.
That is a good point and I really doubt she has all the details figured out.that is nice Avatar
but if she get rid of ICE, and Border patrol, does she want the army at the border? If so, I can get behind that. It will probably save us lots of money. We already have a few bases near our southern border.

Only 5% of voters actually went to the poll?
I have been to many Third World countries, and to see American utter disregard for the right to vote when there are BILLIONS of people out there wishes they can have a free and fair election pisses me off to no ends.
Oh, and calling for the abolition of ICE is in no way radical. ICE was created along with DHS and the Patriot Act in 2003.
There's no reason that you can't get rid of ICE and properly reorganize the border agencies.
My optimism is that it has to get worse before it gets better. Although the extreme and laughable policies she supports could make for great bargaining tools for her more reasonable ones like universal healthcare. From her platform, just the things that are worrisome:
Require Congresspeople to take no money from the gun lobby or private equity companies that invest in the firearms industry
Blatantly unconstitutional
It’s time to abolish ICE
Batshit nuts
LGBTQIA+ rights
Never go full BBQ. For real, the full call letters are a signal that she's way over the top here, regardless of real issues.
Gotta be careful with zealots. She ticks the progressive boxes, but she has no common sense and a few really sketchy positions that don't seem well thought-out.
I'd be in favor of a gradual adoption of Bernie policies but the amount of manipulation and control by the dem party if it's a slow burn adoption would defeat the purpose. That's subtle (or at least that's what passes for subtle lately), the equivocation of the progressive left and the Trump right. Using the example of this candidate, people will take the proposal to abolish ICE (which I think is a really bad idea right now), and pretend that it means having open borders and no immigration controls. That gives them permission to say "you're the same level of crazy as Trump, so I pick Trump." Many of our Never Trumpers are looking for stuff just like that, so they can rationalize their support for the Republican Party.
You're right though, I haven't seen evidence of the left going full Tea Party, and I was worried Bernie's influence would do that. It could still happen in 2020 so I don't think the Democrats are out of the woods yet.
