Alex Pereira Still Ranked #1 @ Middleweight

He got there by being fast tracked. I'm not denying that. It's irrelevant what happened after he beat Izzy, the fact is HE BEAT IZZY, when no one else could.
Yes. Which puts him in the #1 MW ranking by UFC. I just don’t believe he’s the #1 MW after Izzy. That’s all I’m saying.

Your argument was that Alex got fast tracked and couldn't live up to what people expected out of him. Not that he's an unproven MMA fighter and that Izzy has a better Resume than him. Stay on topic dude.
I thought the comparison was relevant. 2 MW champs, very different scenarios on how they got there and what they did when they got there.

That's fine if you don't. That's not what I have an issue with. Everyone is free to their own opinion. What I questioned was how can you say Alex blew his special opportunity by not living up to what everyone expected out of him when he beat Izzy, which is all everyone really expected out of him at that point? I could understand what you were saying if more was expected out of him before beating Izzy, but there wasn't..

So everyone expected him to beat Izzy then ride off into the sunset? "Mission accomplished". Okay I guess?
The failure or disappointment to me is that he got the belt (a 50-50 chance going in), but was immediately toppled. So he remains unproven to me as an MMA fighter and as a "#1 MW".

We already know the UFC rankings are bullshit.

Rankings don't matter even though hey should. Champions are constantly positioning for the challengers they want rather than who is the number one contender. I am so sick of champions ducking number-one contenders or saying those challengers make no sense in fighting. I think Champions should have ZERO say in who they fight. If you are really the champ, fight EVERY number one contender. But letting champions get to pick their fights or worse, giving champions fights in their hometowns and countries is also stupid. A champion's edge should be they are the best and can win anywhere against anyone. Constantly putting challengers on a greater mountain to climb is stupid. If Leon had his way he would never defend his belt outside of the UK ever again.

I don't know if they expected him to ride off into the sunset after winning the belt but the double champ expectations didn't come until after he beat Izzy for the belt. I don't think anyone is arguing that he is proven as an MMA fighter. Most people were saying he would not have made it to the belt if he had to go through wrestlers which would be very true in theory. That is if the guys who can wrestle decide to wrestle and not just try to stand with him.. which in that case, they would likely get sparked out.

And the opposite happened in their first MMA fight. I think you need to stop idolizing fighters and instead try and look at fights objectively.

Sorry, no.

I'm not idolizing anyone, but I am a fan.

Izzy was not "murdering" Alex in their first MMA fight.

Alex actually took the first round, comfortably, until the last few seconds.
Alex clearly took the second round.
Alex was dominating in the third round, but then went for a weird takedown, got reversed, and Izzy dominated him.

The fourth round was lackluster, but Alex started pouring it on in the end.

The fifth round, Alex put the pedal to the metal and took Izzy TF out of there.

It was a very competitive fight, with Izzy getting some tangential edges, at the end of the first and the third, when Alex had actually done the bulk of the good work beginnings of these rounds.
