This means he is ranked above Robert Whittaker and everybody else.

This is fitting, IMO, because he beat Adesanya, who cleaned out everyone else in the division.
He was also beating Adesanya in the return match prior to making out tactical blunder.

Don't forget, in Glory Kickboxing, Alex won the LHW Title and still defended his MW Title. He has never missed weight before. His unique frame allows him to simply decide how much weight he wants to cut.

Personally, I would've rather seen Alex Pereira fight Whittaker than Dricus Duplessis, but the upcoming fight is what it is.

If Whittaker beats du Plessis, does anyone really want to see a third Izzy/Whittaker more than a third Izzy/Pereira fight? I doubt this very much.

The skill level, and razor-thin margin of error is much more compelling when Alex Pereira faces Israel Adesanya. Whittaker has basically been completely outclassed.

All this said, I hope Pereira competing in both divisions.

He deserves the #1 MW Ranking, and if he beats Jan Błachowicz, then he deserves a Top 3 LHW Ranking.

This is going to blow your mind; the rankings don’t actually matter.
This, of course, but it always trigger me when the champ lands on the number one contender spot after a defeat, even challengers do.
They should drop 5 spots automatically to make the division floe and not have instant rematches. I could only see landing on the number 1 spot for razor close, split decision type loses, but that's it. Not losing via murder. And I love Alex.

As someone who's watched "rankings" for longer than you've been alive, I can truthfully promise you that rankings actually DO matter.

The rankings literally define who qualifies for a Title Shot.

Sure, this doesn't mean rankings are "always accurately-done," but usually they're pretty close.

Reality Check: Every single fighter who has ever launched a fighting career has:
  1. First hoped to get into the Top 10, then
  2. Hoped to get up high enough to get a Title Shot, then
  3. Hoped to become Champion.
Most fighters never reach the first step.
Few fighters ever reach the second step.
Fewer still reach the third step.

So sit down and shaddap, thanks!

"my fav fighter hasnt done anything since losing, lets gloat about it!"

That is wrong also.

My favorite fighter has immediately contracted to fight the #3 Ranked LHW Contender (who defeated his nemesis, Izzy), which fight — if Pereira wins — gives him many options in two Weight Divisions.

I really do wonder if he will cut back down. I think if he has success at LHW he should stay there. I think Izzy would fight him at 205 if he wins the title.

Alex didn't lose via murder.

He was actually murdering Adesanya (2x the significant strikes landed, and 66% connect rate to 31% connect rate).

He lost via getting caught, while in the completely dominant position.

Methinks you need to learn what you're actually watching.

Yes, defeating Jan Błachowicz gives Alex Pereira a lot of options.

Challenge for his own second title, then call Izzy up for a trilogy fight ... and (if he wins) he can also chase Izzy back down to MW for a quadrilogy fight.

Pereira should have fought Whittaker next but he tapped out of a possible trilogy with Adesanya and said I'm done with MW.

It's been super hilarious reading the posts after their 2nd fight that izzy was ducking a trilogy though.

The rankings don’t matter. If you’ve been following mma as long as you say you have you should know this better than me. The number next to a fighters name could not matter less. The ufc used to not rank fighters. Not much has changed from then until now. The rankings themselves are bs like you’re pointing out.

I get it’s fun for people like you, but it doesn’t actually matter on who gets title shots.

Agree slightly, but that only happens with superstars.

For the most part, rankings do matter.

Izzy literally said he doesn't want to face Pereira again.

What's hilarious, is that Izzy fans can't realize "the relief" that he finally won — on his fourth attempt, across two platforms.

I think Izzy would want to fight at 205 for a chance at the LHW belt, and that a MW vs LHW champ vs champ fight would be box office considering the history between them.

I mean whats the point in fighting him again if all people are gonna do is throw it in his face that he's behind on the "score"

He cant settle that score, and he already cleared the way for them to fight in the past.

Im sure if Poatan wins the LHW strap,he will go for the fight then, because it would benefit him to do it,and not just to please people.

Uh huh, you keep that copium fella. Izzy can't stop a rematch but Pereira needs to beat someone first and everyone knows this.

Pereira fans need to come back to reality on this lol

So Alex is supposed to grant Izzy another free shot at LHW if Alex wins the belt? After Izzy totally ducked the mma trilogy at 185?

lol. That’s a good one.
