It's unfortunate Hari got injured during the fight BOTH times. I couldn't quite see the knee or whatever that broke his arm in the 1st fight. Trying to see if the ulna or radius - it looked like one of those 2 bones broke near the elbow joint.
Nothing THAT obvious as far as what caused it but these are 2 very big dudes so they got a lot of power even when it doesn't look like a big strike.
Yeah that really sucked man. Both these fights ended too early, still with some questions left. A fight ending with one guy getting injured is really unfortunate..
Thankfully the second fight delivered big time and we still got to see them get in a firefight for three rounds, with 2 knockdowns and both guys exchanging with bad intentions. The ending sucked but after all it still was a great fight

People in the US don’t watch other sports either, so they aren’t the relevant metric. Any sport that can fill such stadiums is not niche and is not a hc fan only thing. That’s like saying Amercan football is niche because it attract large crowds only in the US. We were watching K-1 stuff in Croatia back then on national TV and you could watch it in pretty much any European country.
MMA is still considered a niche sport despite it being on ESPN and being in big venues. Being popular in the US is arguably the most important metric since that dictates whether or not a sport and it's athletes become household names.

Mostly true, but remember when it comes to combat sports those guys who fought in Japan (K-1 and Pride) were household names back then (many still are today) and the big stars got paid serious money. Also, when it comes to combat sports, what was bigger? Boxing and maybe Muay Thai in a small region of the world. Mma might be niche if you compare it to basketball or football, but is huge when you compare it to other combat sports.
Sadly, kickboxing is nowhere near.

I also watched Collision 3 -- Verhoeven vs Jamal Ben Saddik (even bigger dude at 6'9").
Saddik had Rico in trouble twice but then...clearly gassed out and the referee ultimately stopped it. Rico's stamina and cardio endurance is unmatched at this level IMHO.
I was there live too.
Incredible fight. Rico’s got knocked down and he suffered a huge cut below his eye (I really thought they were going to stop the fight, but I’m glad the action continued), but he didn’t give up, fought back, and ultimately drowned JBS in the later rounds of the fight. Though in Jamals defence, he took this championship fight on really short notice and is battling some serious medical issues (Jamal definitely slowed down a lot, but I’m not really sure about “just some cardio problems” though, it looked like he completely shut down after round 3 for some reason).
Rico showed the heart of a lion and refused to give up. He battled through adversity and that won him the fight. Tremendous perdormance

Here’s their second fight in case you’ve never seen that one before, which imo is absolutely awesome too

The fact Badr actually defeated prime Schilt just goes to show what a powerhouse he was in his prime. And then the GP final with him and Semmy was awesome. Semmy evened the score. Those were awesome times for kickboxing

Badr vs prime Hoost would have been a crazy fight. Hari was one of those guys who was legitimately capable of beating anyone in history at his best. It took powerhouses to defeat Hari at his best.

Once a GLORY event is billed “Collision” it’s guaranteed fireworks lol.
Do you watch kickboxing/GLORY on a regular basis or just the big fights bud?

I just watch GLORY occasionally. I do quite like it as I prefer standup fights to ground stuff so it makes a nice change from MMA.

I don't think people realize hari is pretty much a giant.. sure, pereira is a big guy by all accounts and carry a lot of mass but hari is a guy that won't fit in most cars and must duck doorways if he has his winter boots on..

Just when I thought Alex was a big dude, Badr is a legit heavyweight damn lol

Do you know what her name is? Please tell me her name. I think that she's gorgeous.

There's a reason why Alex Pereira is in the Middleweight Division of the UFC.

Even though Alex Pereira is currently the UFC Middleweight World Champion, I really don't think that he should move to the Light Heavyweight Division. At least, not yet.

I'm still surprised kickboxing isn't bigger, with small gloves and a few rule tweaks I could really see it as being the most exciting combat sport. We just need a good US promotion to get us to know the fighters.

Kickboxing had its reputation ruined in the US for being associated with those lame excercise videos and for that weird American kickboxing that existed before where there were no leg kicks and those guys often got destroyed by Thais and Dutch Muay thai fighters. Then the big boxing promotions wouldnt let it get big (read that somewhere).

One FC does cage muay thai fights with mma gloves, its pretty good but i dont think americans would do that good in that rule set. Brazil, East Asia, Europe in general are better at it.

Daphne Joy is her name. As for the Alex he is still a huge middleweight but seeing him next to a heavyweight you can tell the difference here. I still would like him to move up to light heavyweight but down the road.

Thank you for telling me her name. I'll be sure to tell Daphne Joy that she can look for clues in my house any time.

I would definitely want to see a trilogy against Vakhitov. Definitely one of the most exciting fighters in the Glory ring ever if you ask me. LHW is getting more and more interesting with some heavyweights going down to LHW and I think that would suit Pereira well.
Yeah having Poatan in the current LHW division of GLORY would be super cool. Lots of fun matchups over there. Personally I would be most interested in fights between Pereira and Artem Vakhitov, Sergej Maslobojev, Luis Tavares, Nordine Mahieddine, Tarik Khbabez and the new improved version of Donegi Abena now he’s champ (I hope Pereira knocks his head off though, lol. If not, I’ll do it in a few years)

To be honest, I have never even thought about putting Pereira in the tournament, but that would be super cool. He just needs to gain at least 20 kg's, but that would not be a problem<45>
Well, Pereira already weighed about 230 lbs / 104 kg just 6 days after his fight against Izzy last November (a week after cutting all the way down to 185):
https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/alex-pereira-currently-weighs-228-4-lbs-103-6-kg.4265496/
Now imagine if he didn’t have to diet, cut all that weight and maybe even puts on some muscle mass (if he wants to).
He’d easily weigh in at 240 lbs / 109 kg imo, so yeah, let’s put him in the Grand Prix this December!<45>

I don't care. Hari is a criminal and a scumbag.

Tbh I think the controversial things Badr did in the past that were held against him by many people for a long time were made bigger than they really are. A long time ago when he was younger he indeed did fight in a club a few times and stuff like that. I know that’s not good, he’s a professional and he’s not supposed to use his hands like that. But come on, when you’re a young dude that’s just getting famous and you get challenged by some random folks in a club, I can imagine you let them know not to mess with you. I feel like those actions, though they’re absolutely not right, are still getting brought up way to much just to talk down on the guy. It’s not like he raped someone or something like that

That being said, these things happened in the past like 10 years ago, and since then and right now to me Badr seems like a nice and sincere guy with his mind and heart in the right place, for example building schools and hospitals in Morocco without asking (and getting) any media attention for it. He’s also always straight to the point and just says what he thinks, no acts, just real talk.
That’s why I respect him so much, cause nowadays a lot of the times that’s not the case with people that famous.
I really like that about Badr, therefore I’m a fan (plus he’s never in a boring fight ;))
If you’ve seen some interviews or documentaries of Badr you would know what I mean, but I know a lot of people didn’t, so they just know what the media said about him and don’t really know who Badr Hari really is.

The footstomp on Remy Bonjasky’s head in the 2008 K1 WGP-final was stupid though, and rightfully got Badr disqualified. If it wasn’t for that he could’ve been K1 WGP champion!
After all Badr will always be a Bad Boy:)

Oh nice!
Do you plan to watch the heavyweight Grand Prix in December / catch up with the qualifier tournaments leading up to the final 8 (starting with GLORY 85 on April 29)?
I’ll be in attendance at GLORY 85 together with @TacticalTijs
