I tend to think people vastly overestimate the ability of okish wrestlers to take down and control strikers, we've seen it so many times in the last decade people obcessing over "fighter X will be done when he meets a decent wrestler" yet really its rarely been the case.

I think the reality is that the era of LnP fighting really ended int he early 2010's, prior to that I think you had wrestlers explotiing that a lot of strikers tended to focus on defence from their backs which made them vulnerable to just being held down by wrestlers in a judging enviroment that favoured position very strongly.

Really MMA training in think shifted to adapt to that, fighters realized they were giving wrestlers too much respect, treating them as if they were great sub grapplers when the vast majority of them arent. Hence "just stand up" tactics devolped, lots of scrambling became common because few fighters had the skill to punish it.

Were I think you see modern fighters punished isnt against wrestlers, its against people who have both good wrestling AND good submission games.

I don't he think will either, but he could also get ruined similar to Saki and just get suprise KOed on the feet, (bruno Silva has shown to have some serious power). I feel the UFC is hoping Izzy wins and that they can fast track Alex to a quick title shot to capitlize on their rivalry. As the names i mentioned in earlier posts like Edmen, Uriah etc, there are plenty of strikers in the top 15 to match him up strategically to get him next to Izzy.

I must say Alexs first round of his UFC debut was a lil scary haha, But Izzy did get taken down 3 times himself in his debut against 'Rob Wilkinson', so IMO personally their debuts were rather similar, it showed their opponents attempting to grapple fuck em into oblivion in round 1, with both of them adjusting, and koing their opponent in round 2.
