Aldo was a great fighter with one of the best career’s ever. He’s going out of prime is overblown though and this post actually proves it. Aldo only lost to the best of the best both in FW and BW and in a competitive way, except for Conor fight.

We must acknowledge that Conor, Max and Volk beat him in his prime, which in a way makes him only the 4th best FW of all time. You could even argue that he’s 5th, behind Topuria. And don’t get me wrong, he’s definitely in the discussion of being the FW GOAT with Volk, you can make the argument for. All I’m saying that prime Aldo lost to Conor, Max and Volk and most likely would lose to Topuria

you realize aldo was 15 years into an mma career where he mostly spent it in training camps for 5 rounders right? he was still developing technically but he wasn't in his physical prime if that's what you're saying

I don’t know if he would have done any better but I would have loved to have seen Aldo go the other way and move up to LW and focus more on cardio. Even at that stage a version of Aldo who can go just as hard in the 3rd as he does in the first is a scary prospect. But I acknowledge that might be a fantasy.

I think he would be really tiny at light weight. just too small and adding more mass wouldnt have helped. it was not like he had a small frame like max holloway. aldo would have been severely undersized. imagine him against benoit st denis....aldo is far more skilled but he would have a real hard time and probably been bullied

Conor ain't in the GOAT conversation. Give it up, fanboy. Aldo had 9 title defenses, Conor had zero. If fighter A beats fighter B it doesn't put fighter A higher on the GOAT list. Just like Weidman isn't greater than Silva.

I think he would have beaten Pettis had that fight been allowed to happen. But he didn't have Dana White privilege and the UFC were demanding he give up his belt before getting a title shot.

if you can't see that aldo was not at his physical peak against Volk you are blind, not that he was washed but he had physically slowed down, most fighters start to slow down way before people realize, even max has taken on a less physically demanding style and doesn't react to punches the same way

Best and the greatest isn’t always the same. “The greatest” is mostly based on achievements ( number of wins, title defences etc). “The best” means who would’ve beaten who. Like Topuria very very well might be the best FW of all time, but he’s still a long way from being the best.
