Aldo to take out Edgar for McGregor

This fight could be different from the first. Frankie's got all the momentum now,and im sure he aint trying to hear shit from the judges. Can aldo take punches the way he used to after suffering that ruthless Ko at the hands of the irishman? Will he have the same motivation to train for someone hes allready beaten years ago?

Actually losing his title to someone is much worse then taking a fight in a division you have no business in anyways. He loses little stock by losing at 170 but a loss to Frankie at 145 would be seriously damaging.

I think at this point Conor doesn't need a belt. Maybe for commercial reasons at best.

If he keeps being in entertaining fights and attracting attention from folk outside of MMA, it's good for the sport, and the interest will remain - depending on how the fights go.

I read a lot of people saying Conor is fake and manipulating by picking his own fights. It's not his fault Aldo pulled out at 189 or dos Anjos at 196. Nobody forced Diaz to take that fight and there was no shortage of fighters willing to step in. He could have easily pulled out of both cards and waited for his title shots, like a lot of other fighters do, and that's their prerogative. But I get the feeling that a lot of non fans of his get annoyed when he does what he says he will when it comes to fighting and staying on cards. I don't think people understand how competitive he is when it comes to fighting.

I can see your point but i dont think Edgar is unbeatable for McGregor. So Edgar has better wrestling, thats literally his only advantage in this fight(physically&skill) since he has a 5 inch reach disadvantage. Edgar being knocked down by gray maynard 3 times in that fight is just a sign of disaster against McGregor.. he would have to survive the first 10mins and only then i give him a bigger chance to win the fight. Maybe i am underestimating Edgars size but this will definitely be crucial in my opinion. Watch his ko against Mendes and you"ll see that a 2 inch reach advantage is just enough let alone 5. I personally hope Edgar beats Aldo so we can see what McGregor is made of and we can put this pathetic shit talking from Aldo to bed.

I can't say I disagree with any of that one bit. Only thing I will say is he already beat Aldo (is my favorite fighter) and only thing standing in his way of clearing out that division as a whole is now Frankie. A win over Frankie is much more meaningful at this point arguably then a win over Diaz. Monetarily speaking though the fight with Diaz weighs in heavier. Think I'm just bothered that he's tying up the 145's (and I don't even like Frankie) and the fact that Frankie now how to fight Aldo to earn a shot at Conor.

Yeah, my personal preference was Edgar after Aldo. But look, he's being outspoken about being a two weight world Champion in CW and wanting to replicate it in the UFC and that opportunity presented itself. Again, money is another thing that he's made no secret that he likes - and I find it at times wearing thin when he talks about it - but I feel the interest would be higher to see if he could win that second belt rather than fighting Edgar. At least Conor is honest about what he wants.

dos Anjos at the press conference was dribbling about being a man of God and money not being his main focus. Fast forward to the MMA Hour after the Diaz fight and he mentions he's disappointed about missing out on his pay day.

Similar with Edgar who said his main focus was for the belt but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't interested in a big pay day. After the Conor fight with Mendes he hopped the cage and congratulated him and told him if Aldo pulled out again 'let's do it' (or something to that effect) Since then there's being the Tweets, videos, memes, etc, which don't seem to have built up much interest as he'd have hoped - I don't think, anyway. I like Edgar, but I find it a head scratcher when he lost two title fights and got an automatic shot at Aldo when he dropped down in weight. I know Dana had being pestering him to go down and that was probably the carrot dangler, so it's not like Edgar doesn't make demands of his own.

I thought the Conor fight against Aldo over Edgar was much more appealing. stylistic wise anyway.

Except he's not fighting for a second title..this is a pure money/ego fight.

Aldo imo will always be a bad match up for Edgar, he edges Edgar in every department. McGregor on the other hand if he doesn't knock Edgar out will be pounded out on the ground quit easly.

I think this is the real plan here honestly. They're working the heck out of Edgar, the guy has never had an easy fight.

He already took fights against Mendes, Aldo, RDA and Diaz. Many believed they were all stylistic nightmares for Conor.

You're grasping at straws.

Pretty simplistic of you to not consider the context each fight was accepted:

Mendes and Aldo - those fights were necessary for Conor to get the belt.

RDA - He thought he was on top of the world and could beat anyone with his left.

Diaz I - He felt this was an easy fight. So did Vegas. So did most others.

Now that he has the belt, and tasted defeat, he wants to keep his options and excuses open. Why not Diaz at 155? It will close his shots against the light weights if he loses. Why not Edgar? Afraid to lose his belt immediately. Why Diaz at 170? Opens up fight with GSP if he wins, still allows him at least one more big money fight against Aldo/Edgar winner if he loses.

Let's not try and annoint Conor as some sort of fearless warrior who will take on all comers. That's what the UFC wants you to believe. Conor is a very calculated champ who's smart in maximizing his pay days and potential earnings.

It doesnt matter who wins Edgar or Aldo. Either one will handle McGregor when they fight.

Yeah, but I was giving my thoughts on what the next fight after the Aldo one at the time was probably more favourable for fans to watch. I think Edgar was the one, but Conor wanted to try get the second belt.

I find it hard to see him fight at 145 again. If he spends time from the last Diaz fight till the next one in July doing strength and conditioning training, bulking up - I'd imagine it'd be difficult to get down again. I think he should vacate it.

aldo or edgar, one will be forgotten after that match and won't play a role anymore
it's obvious
one enemy less

Pretty much

This "interim" title fight is retarded. The 145 Champion is fighting on the same damn card; there's no reason why he can't defend.

UFC has gone full retard.

I'll watch and enjoy Edgar-Aldo, because it will be a great fight, but the logic behind it is stoooopid.

What is the point of Conor-Nate again at 170?

A monkey could do better matchmaking than Joe, Dana and the UFC.

On the surface it looks stupid. If people are right that Mcgregor can't make 145 again then it makes a lot of sense. Also we might not be able to place all the blame on the UFC here. They can't force McGregor to accept a fight with Frankie at 145. If McGregor goes to the UFC and says I'll fight at UFC 200 but only a rematch with Diaz what choice do they have? Lose millions or make millions? The UFC has a lot of control but a lot of that control is lost with their top fighters like Mcgregor.

If he loses to Aldo he doesn't deserve to win the title.

As simple as that.

sorry i thought you were talking about him fighting Aldo again and not Nate sorry should of read your post properly

Nah, it was a sarcastic post about him avoiding Edgar to fight Diaz (the first person to beat him in the UFC)

I'd like to see the Aldo fight again. I think enough time has passed now where people will be interested to watch it again. Even though Aldo deserved a re-match at some point, I wasn't keen on it so soon after the year long build up.
