Aldo is a true legend and hero.

I probably wouldn't use the term hero, but he is a marvelous fighter.

There's levels to this game

Conor had more finishes in his first year and a half in the UFC than Aldo has in his entire UFC career.

He has been on a heroes journey , coming back from brutal defeats , not just physically but emotionally. he has achieved the old school measure of greatness like the classic boxes did. I have no feelings of adulation or adoration towards him but when I consider Aldo I just have huge respect and inspiration about what the human spirit can achieve. He is a true role model.

I admire Jose's resilience in adversity (his losses and not quitting) and love watching him fight, have always been a fan...but Hero no. He's an athlete, he's not rescuing orphans from Africa or some shit. I hate how people put Athletes and celebrities up on a pedestal then when they do whatever they don't like they shit all over them. He's not a hero nor is he a shit bag. He's an athlete and a damn good one.

Hero? Let’s slow down a little bit here.

^This.

The guy is a fighter ffs. His job is to bash his opponent's face in. You can call him a warrior, a beast or whatever, but a hero? It's not like the dude ran in the middle of a gun battle risking his life to save an injured ally. A doctor is more of a hero.

Anytime someone uses the term "hero" to describe a fighter I cringe.
i cringe when a man uses the word "cringe"

I wish people would stop overusing the word hero.

Sure, he's brave and excellent at that he does. But let's be real- he punches dudes in the face for a living so drunk fans can be entertained for a couple hours. Pump the brakes on the hero talk.

And this is why the term 'hero' has been completely devalued. Everyone and their mother is labeled a hero for one reason or another.

This person's a soldier? Oh, he/she is a hero.

This person's a firefighter? Oh, he/she is a hero.

This guy lost, then finally won a match? Real hero here!

Seriously, enough with the overuse of the term hero.
LOL
Completely agree with what you said but is Sherdog really the right place to be fighting this battle? Know your audience

He's great. It should never be used against him that he lost vs Conor in 13 seconds. That just goes to show how Conor is a different specimen.
I believe he should retire on a high note, Ï know Max is a high level fighter but he took many years off Aldo's life with those 2 fights. I just don't want to see him get ktfo'd ever again

At first I was like

But then I was like

The problem as many people have pointed out is I agree with the sentiment, but not the actual words.

For example, if you would have said:

“I think what Aldo did is remarkable. He came back from being beaten physically and mentally and possibly wanting to give up and showed a warriors spirit” everyone rational would agree.

But when you used the word Hero to describe a ufc fighter who fought his way back, it does water down an important word.

let me bang aldo > title defending aldo!

war new aldo!

LOL

fine sir, sherdog is an impeccable meeting ground to have astute discussion on paramount topics of the day. good day!

Much, much respect for Jose Aldo. A true powerhouse of a FW and great champ. Classy guy (even former opponents are friends with the guy) and great skillset...

I've always been a huge fan of fighters whose leg kicks are amongst their deadliest weapons, whether it was Pedro Rizzo, Barboza, Aldo
