He has been on a heroes journey , coming back from brutal defeats , not just physically but emotionally. he has achieved the old school measure of greatness like the classic boxes did. I have no feelings of adulation or adoration towards him but when I consider Aldo I just have huge respect and inspiration about what the human spirit can achieve. He is a true role model.

He came from favela, he worked hard, he achieved the title...he lost and he still wins.
That's a nice story of course, but hero? Isn't it a bit too much?

Whoa, did TS make a thread complimenting a fighter without bashing another fighter or two?

I saw this once in 2010.

He's great. It should never be used against him that he lost vs Conor in 13 seconds. That just goes to show how Conor is a different specimen.

And this is why the term 'hero' has been completely devalued. Everyone and their mother is labeled a hero for one reason or another.

This person's a soldier? Oh, he/she is a hero.

This person's a firefighter? Oh, he/she is a hero.

This guy lost, then finally won a match? Real hero here!

Seriously, enough with the overuse of the term hero.

Really? A different specimen? Is that why Conor was choked out by a journeyman fighter in Nate Diaz?

Conor isn't a different specimen. He has a mean left punch, but different specimen? How about he actually defends a belt before we award that term as well?

Funny how no one remembers Aldo's drug test fiasco.

Probably because it was swept under the rug.

He's no hero. He made a good career for himself in sports...
Heroes save people

Aldo's ego got in the way. He underestimated Conor and charged in carelessly. Can't take away the win from Conor, but you have to think a second fight between the two would play out differently.

Aldo is a great fighter but he has some pretty terrible fans like Dozer and 20falarverdades.

These 2 guys just downplay how good other fighters are to bolster Aldo. The worst type of fans in MMA IMO.

^This.

The guy is a fighter ffs. His job is to bash his opponent's face in. You can call him a warrior, a beast or whatever, but a hero? It's not like the dude ran in the middle of a gun battle risking his life to save an injured ally. A doctor is more of a hero.

Anytime someone uses the term "hero" to describe a fighter I cringe.

Why so touchy about the word. It's not like when people misuse the word "racist".

By dictionary definition, he could be considered a hero:

hero
ˈhɪərəʊ/
noun
  1. 1.
a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.
    "a war hero"
synonyms: brave man, champion, man of courage, great man, man of the hour, conquering hero, victor, winner, conqueror, lionheart, warrior, paladin, knight, white hat; More#
He has outstanding achievements and has shown courage to get where he is from nothing. He also does a shit ton for charity and for his hometown, so he can be seen as a hero to those he helps too.
