I agree, Zhang vs JJ is way overrated. Not even FOTN(I thought Dariush vs Klose was better) so definitely not FOTY for me. Poirier vs Hooker and Emmett vs Burgos are much better fights though personally Yan vs Aldo is up there for me due to my being a fan of both and just the stakes involved.

Hooker-Poirier was an awesome fight, but the last couple of rounds were pretty one-sided, and the winner was super obvious. Great fight though.

Why is that bad? I love violence and watching Poirier chip at Hooker's soul with each punch was satisfying.

Joanna Jędrzejczyk v Zhang Weili in my opinion. Non stop for 25 minutes I was in total awe. I was on the the edge of my couch. Was a hard fight to score. Close second is Figuieredo and Moreno. You have a guy in Figuieredo who is this monster and Moreno who isn't given much of a chance. Lots of dramatic moments were both guy shone but the nut shot and the last round just meant it just missed out for me. Third is Poirier v Hooker. Great fight especially first 3 rounds but last two knock it below the other 2 because it was clear Hooker was gassed and Dustin took over.

A fight and a fighter are 2 different things with different criteria to what make them great. For example, a fight doesn't have a personality to dislike, like a fighter has. So the comparison isn't really even. Greatness has no objective measurement to it, in general. Sure you can find criteria many would agree with, but also many would disagree, to differing extends. Most successful, on the other hand, is a more objective concept than greatness, as there are clearer measurements for success than greatness.

However, this was about fight of the year. Which simply implies the fight people liked the best this year. I chose to call it great, which I think is adequate, but more plainly put is just the fight people liked the most/think is the best, for as far as I know. Unless you are aware of some official definition with official criteria for it to meet, but I don't think there are any.

Also, sure you can dislike a fighter and still think he is great, but both statements are subjective and not really objective. Of course you take objective things into account like wins and belts and stuff like that, but how heavily you factor those in is already your subjective decision.

Joanna/Zhang was a great fight, I think the criticisms of it being "the same exchange for 25 mins" is heavily exaggerated too. But it could be the defining factor why Fig/Moreno was "better". It had more variety of exchanges.
