Adriano Martins underrated & where is he?

He last fought back in October on the Cormier/Gus card. He had a brutal 1 punch KO in his most recent fight against a Russian Sambo guy. The guy is quietly 4-1 in the LW division so far with his lone loss to Cerrone with that headkick.

He's got a BJJ black belt and has won BJJ tournaments. He's a heavy handed southpaw with a solid chin. He even out wrestled Rustam Khabilov so he's got wrestling too unlike alot of Brazilian black belts that can't get the fight to the floor. Alot of times when you're well-rounded like that it makes you a much you a much sharper fighter.

I think he's a pretty solid fighter for a guy who's not close to even being ranked. Chalk it up to how deep 155 truly is where a guy like Martins wouldn't even get a whisper.

So why hasn't he been scheduled for any fights?

He's good. Him and Rashid magomedov should fight.

Unfortunately Rashid is fighting Chris Wade in a classic striker vs grappler match up and both guys are 4-0 in the UFC. Interesting fact, if Martins did have Rashid as his next opponent it would have been his 3rd Dagestan Russian opponent in a row.

Martins is underrated. His last opponent, Islam, was overrated and a slight favorite simply because he was training with Khabib and is similar to him.

I read he's supposed to be fighting Leo Santos (the guy that tko'd Kevin Lee a few months ago) in October at UFC 204.

By the time he fights again it will be a year since his last fight and he's pretty old at 34. If guys like him and Rashid are to make a move in the LW division, it has to be now.
