Adesanya deserves a ton of credit.

I personally see izzy winning this fight. I think costa would be a much harder fight...costa is super aggressive, relentless in his pressure...that seems to work better against izzy....romero is more of a counter striker...he sits back and waits to explode with strikes...izzy is too long and his reach is too great for that to work...I see izzy easily picking apart romero.
I'm not sure if that's all correct. Izzy might just have good enough ring craft to make walking Costa a) hesitate or b) miss what he throws. You don't see Izzy to run back in straight lines, he'd make one step back and immediate pivot to redirect the fight. If Gastelum's hop-step entries are, at least, some indicative of what you should do against Israel, then we can all agree Yoel is much better suited to implement that kind of strategy than is Costa.

OP's the kinda guy who a year from now will be shitting on Adesanya beating Romero (if it happens) because Romero was an overrated fighter past his prime.

I would never do that dummy. Romeo in my opinion is a special fighter. But he might be past his prime. We can't deny that. I will give due credit if he beat him. He may. Romero is a special, special fighter.

well, adesanya > the gost of anderson

Why would you say that Adesanya is not likeable? In my opinion he's one of the most likeable fighters.

Talking about smaller men, GSP never had issues fighting smaller men like BJ Penn, a natural lightweight. The only time he had the balls to move up was when he cherry picked the weakest MW champ in history, who had one eye and was pushing 40 and still beat that Anderson Silva ass 1 year prior to fighting GSP.

At least Anderson had the balls to move up many times.
Fixed that for you.

Romero is a monster. Not many guys fights a monster like that when you are a title holder when you don't have to. I mean, not just a title holder. These days, no one seems to fight tough guys, unless you have to, or they are ranked higher than you.

Look at Anderson. Tried to be best friends with Jon Jones while calling out smaller man in GSP like a real man, also trying to be BFF with Jacare as well. Ducked Weidman and only had guts to fight him when Weidman was coming off a lay off longer than a year, and promptly proceeded to get knocked out like a clown.

Maybe Adesanya isn't as likable as some fighters. But he deserves massive credit for this. I don't think this is a great idea tho. I would have advised Adesanya against taking Romero fight when he didn't have to but oh well. Romero beat Whitakker in the second fight anyway.
Anderson Silva is the GOAT

Except that Romero is in his own weight classe?

And except that Borrachinha asked for that fight for 1 year, Won It, as well as Whittaker, twice?

Adesanya will lose this year...too much hype around this guy.

Dude, the guy beat Whitaker, Gastelum, Anderson, Brunson and Tavares in rapid succession. You gotta wonder at which point this "hypejob" thing loses its whole meaning. He is the real deal, whether he wins his next fights or not is another story.

Seems like a veiled hate thread a little bit, but this is one of the few times i'm cool with a guy coming off a loss getting this kind of shot. Costa is on the shelf from surgery so there's time to wait out for him to return, so izzy is ready to fight he shouldn't have to wait on that kind of recovery. That decision was super hotly contested anyways so it's not even like Yoel was a clear loser against Costa whos the rightful #1 contender, and I believe Paulo should keep that designation upon his recovery and return. And the only other possible contenders that make any sense rank wise are Cannonier, and Till ranked just behind Yoel but neither have near enough presence at MW yet to be fighting for the title really as they have almost no exposure at the weight class. So unless you're giving whittaker his "champions rematch" yoel is really the only option while Paulo recovers and Cannonier and Till take more fights to get their footing in the division. Just my opinion though.
I wouldn't have an issue with Cannonier getting a TS, but agree that another fight with a contender would solidify his spot. I don't agree that someone coming off a loss should ever get a TS barring an emergency, but given who it is and the closeness of Yoel's last decisions, I don't think this is anything like Bisping fighting old Hendo, for example.

to me on paper its his toughest fight in the division. romero doesn't always fight the way he should though. hes had all these fights that easily could have gone his way that he seemingly lets slip buy. sometimes he just doesn't GO and hesitates. Could use his wrestling more too. I remember watching the Machida fight being like why doesn't he just turn on, atleast go for a takedown.. and the second he does boom the fight is over. looks like something he could have done in the first round of the fight. hes also had all these standing wars now where he has taken some insane blows to his head. I think he just takes a lot of punishment vs adesanya unless he fights smart and doesn't get into a stubborn stand up war.

Cannonier is real close. Just feels like between his division jumping to get down to MW, and only being 3 wins deep in the division he dosen't have any sort of built name to promote this with. Yoel however has been in high profile fights, so at least he has that pedigree. Cannonier has his chance to build that name immediately though. He's got a fight with Whittaker on the books. If he can put away robert, that's instant divisional recognition at the top level.

Yup, I think given Costa's injury, since they did end up giving Cannonier a top guy and Izzy is specifically requesting Yoel, this is acceptable if not ideal. Izzy has been so active and a great self-promoter so no way are the UFC brass gonna force him to fight a different contender than one he asked for when he could easily have sat out til Fall and not even been unusually inactive for a champ.

I don't think he deserves credit for defending his title against a top challenger. If he demanded to fight Jones now, and not in 2 years, then I would say he deserves huge credit for that.

Double digit loses
And caught multiple Time for Roid.

Lel, not even top 3
Anderson > cherry picking, decision machine, tapped to strikes GSP as confirmed by pro MMA fighters

I was late to buy into the Israel hype. I just felt he’s like MVP and not tested in adversity against top competition.

But his last fight, his willingness to fight Romero (who no one in the division wants to fight even that this age) and his relentless pursuit of Jon friggin Jones deserve all the respect in the world

Izzy deserved credit for fighting a 42 old contender whos 1-3 in his last 4 fights

as opposed to Silva who didnt want to fight an unstoppable, bigger man who is arguable the best fighter ever?

{<huh}
