I have been in every type of gym imaginable from cross fit boxes, to La Fitness,Vic Tanny (yes im old), basements you name it. Sometimes my bench was "on" sometimes it wasn't. The one constant through out the years has been my choice of attire.
You see a lot of peacocking goes on in gyms. And though most of the non verbal queues are from one's build and posture, one's choice of clothing can convey a message as well. I like to have a baseball cap with a tightly curled bill to the point of arguably looking like a douche. Cargo pants, and wife beater. This classic look always gets me stares from the females, and glares of envy, and respect from guys.
So IMHO be free to dress as you like in the gym I don't care if its a damn Tux do you I've always noticed the adrenaline bump I get when I'm wearing a new head to toe UA get up. something empowering and have a power mcolor mine is Brown seashore Crayola # 112.
And as far as etiquette. Please re rack your weights. And don't squat in the curl rack ffs.
