Abu Dhabi Pro Trials

Mine are older now (3 and 6), I can understand how draining the babies part when they are less than a year old. You are right things will settle down a bit more relatively soon for you.

I hope so bro..I would really love to compete more and start being a serious competitor. I cant wait forthe day I take my son to HIS first comp..

thats cool, what grades are you teaching? Im a comp teacher now, so my job is a little less stressful, but having a 1yr old son takes up most of my time.

Also do you guys have sponsors, or funding these trips yourselves? What rank are ya'll..I'm just a blue but see they have blue belt divisions. I believe theres an ADCC event in Dallas coming up, If i can make weight I might do it.

I'll be able to teach 5-12, math or special ed.

Sponsors, I wish. I'm fortunate enough to be getting money from the millitary for school, so what I have left over goes to BJJ. So I guess you could say they're a sponsor. :icon_chee
I am able to get really good deals on some of the gear and I help teach classes, so my tuition and privates are a little bit cheaper than the norm at my school. But everything adds up quick.
I was bored back in August so i put together a thing to see how much money I spent on tournaments, gear, travel, hotel, and training money. Then I also figured out my overall record and places. For the year from AUG 09- AUG10, I spent about $4500, had a 41-18 record with about 15 first places, and had approxiamtely 950 hours of time spent training and competing.
Pretty much my life consisted of College and BJJ.

I'm a purple belt and I've still got a long ways to go before the next level. I spend this part of the year learning new techniques, cleaning up the techniques I know, and building up th ecardio. Competition picks up at the beignning of the year and i have plans to compete in about 1 tournement a month, from January to June.
Hopefully this year I can include Abu Dhabis in the mix. I came really close last year, but now's the point where one little mistake can cost you. Last year, it did.

At least one European trial (Sweden) is advertised as happening even though the organiser has specifically told me it isn't happening because he couldn't get a venue.

Presuming he's telling the truth (@_@), similar things could be happening on your end.

I'm planning to compete at the Portuguese, Polish and UK trials. Was aiming for Sweden as well but they went and cancelled on me. Humbug. >_<

Looking forward to it. Brown & Black Belt divisions with Brazilian imports! Fun! ^_^

Take care,

Oli

Yeah I say something like this is may be happening. Don't see how a tournament can be happening if you can't find information on the tournament one month before the event. Unfortunately the same group is the organizer for the Palm Beach trials.

Sucks since I was really looking forward to the event.

I'm gonna try and make it to the Montreal one. The timing for the NY one's was way off for me, and we don't even know if its happening. Montreal should be way more fun anyway :).

Ive been emailing about the West Coast trials for months. No reply.

Ive heard of the Trials March 5th, in Las Vegas. Im kinda pissed they are having trials in China, and New Zealand AND Austraila, plus 4 in Europe, yet only 3 in the US.

One in NY, one in FL, and one in Vegas? They should have at least added one in LA.

I'm gonna try to make the Vegas one. If anyone hears anything, please post the info here.

I wish they added one in the middle of the country too. I'm in Michigan so it is12 hour drive to Montreal or NYC, or flights to Vegas or Florida. As a poor-ish student, I'd rather not pay for plane tickets on top of hotels. But if things go as scheduled, Vegas trials are over spring break.

Rumours are trials all over the place are being cancelled
