Just curious, who here will be entering any of the Abu Dhabi Pro trials.

Also, just curious, what are the cost you guys are paying?

I should be at the Vegas trials.
Did the ones this year in Santa Cruz. One of the best tournaments around.

i did the blue belt one in santa cruz last year and took second in my division, but then i chickened out before my absolute and left. didnt think at 138lbs i had a chance....

this year i'm a purple and i know i am not up to it. so no go. it was a very good tournament last year. started on the minute!! if you think you're up to it, go for it!

I will be doing the New York trials on Dec 4th and most likely the Palm Beach trails in Florida. What kind of turnout was there at last years tournaments?

On a related note does can anyone provide a link to the North America tournament organizers website. I found it a while back, but apparently forgot to bookmark it and I am having a hard time finding it.

I am considering doing the New York ones, I don't know yet

I'm planning on doing the NY and the MOntreal ones. The website for the NY one has been down for about a month and I talked to someone who talked to the promoter of the Montreal one who said that the NY one might be postponed or who knows what.

The website was under NAFA but is now down. I pronted out the first page but of course it doesn't have the contact info on it.

Do you know when the Montreal ones are?

Well it doesn't look good if the website for the tournament organizer is down one month out from the supposed date of the event.

I'm curious..but what do yopu guys do for a living that allows you the time to go to these big events? I would love to take a shot at the big events, but my job (teacher) doesnt allow me the luxury of missing and competing mid yr. On top of that I have a family. I see the ADCC trials and the Jiu Jitsu Pro World Cup trials coming up and I have to sit by and let them pass me by

nuclear medicine part time. my wife is a Dr. so i train about 20 hours a week. that's what lets me do it how i do.

brazil this summer!

I'm finishing up school, so life is a little bit easier, but right now I'm student teaching so my life is a lot busier with all of that. No more day classes for now.
If its something you want to do, you have to make th etime for it and plan ahead. It's like training BJJ, if you want to train, you make time to train. If you want to cmpete, you make time to compete. Life would defintely be harder with a family so I wouldn't compete as much, but you have to make time for yourself.

I've had weekends were friday I'm driving/ flying somewhere, competing Saturday/Sunday, then driving/flying back Sunday, getting back in time for school /work on Monday morning. It takes a couple days to get back on track, but its worth it. It's hard to find good competitive tournaments the higher you get in the ranks, so any chance there is, I'm in. Just motivates me to train harder, knowing why would I want to drive 6 hrs/ fly across country to get one match. Shit happens, but less of it happens if I prepare and train hard for it.

thats cool, what grades are you teaching? Im a comp teacher now, so my job is a little less stressful, but having a 1yr old son takes up most of my time.

Also do you guys have sponsors, or funding these trips yourselves? What rank are ya'll..I'm just a blue but see they have blue belt divisions. I believe theres an ADCC event in Dallas coming up, If i can make weight I might do it.

Just go for it, its fun. I will go again this year (the montreal one) and it will be my 3rd time. I just go for the experience and to watch other ppl compete, if I win a couples matchs then that just make it better. 1st time I was a white belt, 2nd time relatively new blue and this year Ill go in with more experience and confidence.

To give you an idea im also a father of two that work all week and go to bjj 2-3 times a week.

Thats tight. Are your kids still babies? I think with him being so young right now (late nights and feedings) my wife needs me alot. Once hes a little older, I think things will free up. I train 2-3 times a wk as well..and spend the other days either chilling or doing coniditoning.

Mine are older now (3 and 6), I can understand how draining the babies part when they are less than a year old. You are right things will settle down a bit more relatively soon for you.
