Absolute Mad Lads: Charlie Zelenoff

there's a lot of spectrums toward schizophrenia. It's not just auditory illusions but confirmed delusion of grandeur which is one of the more subtle kinds. I did a course in abnormal psychology and its one of those disorders that makes me question the validity in how some of these things are diagnosed because it's such a broad and often vague spectrum. It seems like you can pin it to anything.

I tend to use the classic example of Henry VI, the mad king who was said to have suffered a schizophrenic lapse, but despite being catatonic didn't have the typical symptoms to such an extant it has also just been caused a mental lapse. That is, they don't even really know. As for becoming suddenly lucid, Henry was catatonic for 18 months then suddenly snapped out of it when he realized he had a son, so there are different states of awareness at play

That's not what I mean by suddenly lucid, though. Episodes begin and end, so there will always be a point where lucidity comes about. What I mean is Charlie went from rambling on about his upcoming title fight with Klitschko, to talking sh*t to Floyd Sr, to fighting, and then to apologizing all in a matter of minutes. There didnt seem to be any aspect of what he was doing that was beyond his control, the other kid I trained had no control once the episode was commenced. I'm sure it ended at some point, but it didnt end as a reaction to anything around him. Charlie becomes suddenly very rational and self-preserving when people seriously want to hurt him. That's likely the only reason he's still alive. And like I said there's another guy who does this exact same routine, albeit not as vocal.

He shows up to gyms, seems fairly normal, just reserved and quiet, asks to spar, then turns it into a fiasco, usually by sucker-punching someone. Always has a camera. And then afterwards he's lucid and apologetic despite everyone thinking he's a nutjob. Exact same pattern Charlie follows. Also Christian is currently banned from every gym in Vegas.

also, shrinks make money giving labels out, I never trust a field like that. Mental illness is real but if you don't think I'm right about shrinks, go to one and after an hour they'll give you a label, damn near guaranteed.

My ma was labeled bipolar, I never knew if she really was or not. One of my cousins was apparently told he was schizophrenic, I don't know if he was or he wasn't. I know he was a mess though.

Because of a lack of healthcare coverage, the US has an incredibly high rate of undiagnosed mental illness, despite how little we trust our institutions. People dont go get any help when things start to seem like they're going downhill, it's more common to get help in jail or after.

And this coming from a guy who has seen someone like Paul Spadafora pass out in a gym ring for a nap in the middle of the day, and throw hands with a parent in a parking lot later that night.

He's a piece of shit and doesn't deserve the notoriety.
Not only that, I seriously think that he might be mentally challenged.

Really sad to see Guernica like this these days.

For sure. Charlie is definitely fairly calculated. When he first came to Tocco's he didnt even talk to anyone. He just put some gloves on (laces dangling) and started absurdly wailing on a bag. Floyd Sr. asked him what the f*ck he was doing and he said training for his upcoming fight with Wladimir Klitschko. Floyd went off on him and that's how all that started
Damn that's crazy

Love hearing backstory to stuff like this, thank you.

I don't think people should give this guy any attention. He's a piece of shit and doesn't deserve the notoriety.
You are right. Seeing people in here actually support the guy is kinda sickening.

I've heard he use to smoke meth briefly at some point in time when he was younger which probably accelerating his underlying issues, think a lot of it is speculation though. There's videos of when he's tweaking on something though, likely prescription drugs.

P2P meth causes schizophrenic episodes as well. The damaging effects have been shown to last for months after a user stops using. Some documented cases took 6 months of sobriety before they could start taking personal, reasonable steps toward managing their own recovery
