You can't compare Strickland to Weidman, Rockhold, Romero, Bisping, Jake Shields, or Machida. Sean isn’t great—he barely uses his legs or grappling due to his poor gas tank. Hopefully, DDP beats him again and shuts him up for good.

Sean was champ only a year ago and has only been at the top of the division for a few years. I would not put him in the same era of MW as Rob and Izzy were dominant in.

Roman Dolidze also took part of this era. Rodolfo Vieira is another guy, with three POTN bonuses in his last four fights!

However, losing to Curtis in between those is of course a bit worrying...

I honestly think Till could be the most underrated of this gen. He looked to belong in there with Bobby Knuckles, then got shit on and told to retire for struggling with DDP's weird style.
I mean DDP went on to finish Brunson, Whittaker and Adesanya and also took the belt from Strickland afterwards. No excuses for DT's shitty TDD though.

Really good fighters but several are one dimensional compared to the previous era.

Izzy, Costa, Cannonier, Strickland, Till are primarily strikers where as Hermanson & Brunson were primarily grapplers. Seems like the era before the fighters were more well rounded in general.

Strickland actually has a win over the new generation though, are people already forgetting that the guy who KO'd Izzy yesterday also got schooled by Strickland on 4 days notice?

I've been a big Whittaker fan forever but man it hurts to see but he can't hang with this new crop of MW's. Both Chimaev and DDP sort of put him down a couple rungs on the MW ladder. Put Rob against Caio Borralho and I'm afraid it's a similar result too.

It's over.

When Dickland trained with Alex, it was over.
When Jizzy trained with Knuckles, it was over.
When Silva got dropped by Jake Paul, it was over.

It's been over a while now.

At least DDP finished thin jizzy.

A division is determined by finishers.

Everything comes to an end...

Makes me feel old even though I've been watching since UFC 1 lol

Time to bring in more talent - that's true for a few divisions in the UFC.

strickland is NOT from the same generation as whittaker and izzy lol

he was still a WW when both had already touched gold

He's about 69 days younger than Whittaker and he has one more professional fight than him too. He's also been in the UFC for a very long time. Granted, he peaked later. Probably due to fighting at WW and then his motorbike accident and move to MW after. His low finishing rate and split decisions also contributed to a longer road to the top.

No. The only weight classes that are better now are the lower ones that didn't exist in the old days. Of course it was better before. If you go two generations back you get Anderson who was better than all of them.

WTF? The guy beat prime Izzy for 5 rounds.

And has a great gas tank, excellent kicks and checks.

Good but definitely not great.

You had some great fighters hold the belt for a minute. Ie Izzy , strickland (maybe?), Whittaker and Alex. We also saw one champion defend it multiple times. Unfortunately Izzy had a lot of lackluster championship performances and ironic enough both Izzy and Strickland lost the belt in the most boring way possible and only mainly because they did not put up a fight at all. They just kind of accepted the ass beating, Izzy vs Strickland, Strickland vs DDP
