Actually I made a mistake. Ilia moved back to Georgia between 8 and 14 where he did Greco and kyokushin.
 
TBF though I find it misleading to call Topuria Georgian as he has never trained in Gerorgia and doesn‘t use wrestling or judo, the 2 disciplines where Georgia is known.
As far as I know, he developed his wrestling roots in Georgia, and then built upon it with BJJ that he learned in Spain.

He has the ability to wrestle when the need arises, look at the fight vs Herbert. If he didn’t have a wrestling base to instinctively TD Herbert, he would have likely been KOd.

But yea, I agree most of his success should be attributed to his coaching in Spain.
