I'm not saying they're pussies, but within the context of how savage this sport is - it is a little odd that there's not a single 135er at least bullshitting about stepping in. Not a single one. Some fringe TOP 10 guy at least. Or some #yolo 125er. We needs some mini Chael Sonnens around.

Why would they? There is a top 5 featherweight ready to step in and Ortega wants off the card. I'm not hating on him. Its the business move. But he clearly is not accepting replacements. There is no shortage of replacements.

With the news of Holloway’s withdraw, at the same exact time multiple mma outlets say Ortega wants off the card and isn’t fighting anyone not named Max Holloway. That killed the discussion. It’s not like when Khabib needed an opponent and everyone and their mother stepped up because he was accepting replacements. That shit was never on the table here. There is zero reason to pretend you’re going to fight the guy who says he’s gonna wait.

Ortega being out wasn't cemented. And it still isn't. Nothing is set in stone in fighting. Fan cravings, money and drama change momentum and gets all kinds of things done. Crazy things happen in MMA all the time. For all you know, Gus could be fighting Ngannou for an interim belt this Saturday - that's how weird this shindig is.

But I guess your thought process is how they all think - something seems unlikely, so you don't even take a shot at it. Sucks to be them.

What fan cravings, money, or drama, would be added by fighting a bantamweight though?
