80s & 90s horror movies

The Changeling (1980) must see
Speaking of George C Scott, Exorcist III didn't get great ratings, but just the banter between him and his best friend priest character is very worth the watch at least while the guy lives for like half the movie.

I felt like the exorcist 3 is a bit boring in the beginning if you don't know how it's connected to the first movie. Once I saw how it was I ended up liking it a lot. Watched it again and liked it even more. Worthy sequel to the GOAT horror movie.

The thing
Nightmare on elm Street
Fright night
Lost boys
The howling
Silver bullet
Wish master 1+2
Candyman
Event horizon
Demon knight
Bordello of blood
Species
Dead alive

Excellent list. I actually like all of those movies. Got my wife into wish master haha. The main guy is great and hilarious. I don't like the ones that don't have him in them.

Reanimator 1, 2 and 3

Great body horror movies involving people brought back to life with a serum. Very funny as well.

From Beyond

Great special effects. About scientists that create a machine that allows a parallel universe to open in a house

Dead Alive

Prob the goriest horror movie ever. Very funny. Zombie movie. One of Peter Jackson's first movies

The Frighteners

Ghost movie. Funny. Has Michael J Fox. That's reason enough to watch it

The Fly

One of my favorites. Amazing special effects. About a scientist, Jeff goldblum, that merges with a fly in his teleportation pod.

Amityville Dollhouse

Not sure why, but I like this movie. About an evil dollhouse. Loosely associated with Amityville

Deep blue sea

Killer mako sharks. Entertaining.

Leprechaun 1 and 2

Hilarious movies

Night of the Comet

Great sci Fi movie

Phantasm

Very weird but awesome sci Fi movies about a tall man from another dimension that uses crushed humans and silver balls to kill or capture people. Watch all of them

The Dentist 1 and 2

Hilarious movies with good special effects. A crazy dentist that likes drilling people's teeth, perhaps too much.

If you don't care about being scared then maybe modern horror movies might actually be something worth exploring.

Although really I think the problem is that simply scaring the audience just isnt that hard, a few simple tricks that modern horror just endlessly recycles but creating an interesting story around that or indeed creating more of a doom ladden atmosphere is a lot harder.

The problem with modern horror I tend to think is that it became limited in its audience to "horror fans" who really just want to see those tricks done a million times, the same jumpscares recycled by not very talented directors. Horror in the 70's and 80's though that was an era were directors like Kubrick, Scott, Parker, etc made horror films.

Honestly I always thought that Scream was the begining of the end personally, its not a terrible film in itself but it paved the way for endlessly teen jumpscare horror to follow.

-Nice werewolf film from 2000, but all practical effects and a coming of age story.

Most I like have already been mentioned but I’m throwing these in there.

There are some good modern horror films, you just gotta follow the less mainstream ones typically. Though I think Hereditary and Midsommar by Ari Aster are popular and get high praise, and rightfully so.

Night of the living dead 3 was surprisingly touching. I shed a tear at the end
