"6 Bold Predicitions for 2018" - Sportsnet Article

"1. GSP will retire… officially this time
When Georges St-Pierre stepped away from the UFC in 2013 he was careful to never use the word “retire.” That will change next year — as sad as that may be for MMA fans to hear.

2. Conor McGregor will fight in the UFC and lose
Saying a UFC champion will attempt to defend his title shouldn’t be considered a bold prediction, but with McGregor it certainly is. That said, we’re still going to hear plenty of wild rumours attached to him. A rematch with Mayweather in the UFC? A boxing match with Manny Pacquiao? A trilogy bout with Nate Diaz? A super fight with GSP?

3. Rory MacDonald will become Bellator’s first two-weight champion
The Canadian looked phenomenal in his Bellator debut in May, dominating Paul Daley with a vintage performance. He faces Douglas Lima — one of the most under-appreciated talents in the sport — for Bellator’s 170-pound title in January. Once he beats Lima there won’t be too much for him at welterweight besides maybe a tilt with the entertaining and unbeaten Michael “Venom” Page.

4. The Bellator heavyweight tournament will have a surprise winner
When Bellator MMA president Scott Coker announced an eight-man heavyweight tournament earlier this year, it got MMA fans excited. The eight participants — Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Chael Sonnen, Ryan Bader, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Matt Mitrione and Roy Nelson — might be considered over the hill and only four of them (Fedor, Mir, Mitrione and Nelson) are natural heavyweights, but it’s reminiscent of the grand prix tournaments defunct promotions like Pride FC and Coker’s baby, Strikeforce, used to hold.

5. AKA will finally boast four champs simultaneously
The American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose is among the elite MMA gyms on the planet. It’s home to UFC stars Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Cain Velasquez, and in 2018 all four of those fighters will be UFC champions.

6. Cynthia Calvillo will become strawweight champ
She’s only 6-0 as a pro but half of those wins have been inside the Octagon against top competition. After she gets by Carla Esparza at UFC 219 she’ll be firmly in the contender conversation. Then one more win over a top-five opponent should earn her a title shot and the Californian will upset Rose Namajunas (or whoever the champio
n is at the time) to become the new face of women’s MMA at 115 pounds."

1. Agree
2. Disagree, he won't fight.
3. Not even interested.
4.Who cares.
5. No they won't and Rockhold is already in another team. Cain won't fight post-USADA era.
6. She will lose to Carla.

rose will win the rematch vs joanna.

gustafsson will become lhw champ

boomarang boy will beat tyron and become champ

mcgregor beats tony with ease.

NOW those are some BOLD ASS predictions

I'd say #5 is least likely

I know it's least likely, because Cain is always hurt and needs a win before getting a title shot, and same goes for Khabib. He will have to fight Tony before getting to Conor (or wait until Tony and Conor fight first), and then there's ramadan and all that crap.

But I still hope the reason is Luke getting the shit kicked out of him by Whitaker. I just can't stand that guy.

EDIT: Oh, Luke left AKA? Nevermind, then.

The UFC would run out of interim belts if this were to happen.

Mine are CM Punk will win a fight and young prospect Erick Silva will finally realize his potential

Number 5 is the only actually "bold" prediction. The others are just predictions

I got one:

Brian Ortega will upset Max Holloway after weathering a storm, and become FW Champion.

That's the thing with Holloway though...there is no storm...he keeps attacking nonstop and never stops...max literally never gets tired...so the entire fight is the storm...

No, I don't think he officialy left, but he is preparing with Hooft for his fight against Whitaker. Combat Club. Florida.
So I don't think you can fully credit AKA, if he will deafeat Robert.

It onky takes him to duck his head in the wrong way once... One mistimed takedown over the rounds against a guy with a crazy chin and drive...

It's going to be a great fight. Either a complete beatdown, or a back and forth war all over the octagon.

Holloway will never ever lose, cause of cardio issues...he might get out pointed...or even tapped...but I doubt that now...

Holloway is buying into his own hype and could get complacent very easily.

I like the guy and he's very good, but the dude has lost any sense of humility and that always affects fighters in the end.

1
Neah, fight with Conor

2
Yeah, because GSP will wrestlefuck Conor

3
No, because Moose

4
Not really, because it doesn't matter, they are all in the same category and every outcome would not be that much of a surprise

5
No, I don't see Khabib and Cain champions

6
Possible, it's WMMA, everything is possible

It's called promotion. He is that good, it's not like he's lying.
I get that... I'm just saying that lots of fighters have got complacent in the past, having told tales of their greatness.

I like Max a lot, I think he's a great fighter, and I'm not saying anything negative about him... Just saying it could happen.

Gotcha. Sorry if I seemed defensive haha. I like Max, I see him as a humble, hard working kid who's now claiming what he's earned. It could happen, but I haven't seen any real signs of it yet.
