Started on 2/9/10.

I'm 14, 5'8, 130 pounds, just finished my first wrestling season as a freshman. I want to do a 5x5 to gain strength, and move up a weight class or two. I know I'm a total embarassment to most of you S&P guys, but I'm really trying my hardest. This is my first 10 week cycle. My goal is simply to lift weights, and whatever happens, happens.

WEEK 1:

Tuesday: 5x5 Squat (70lbs), 5X5 Bench (40 lbs), Deadlift 5X5 (90 lbs).
First day of weight lifting ever. I couldn't lift anything over 100 lbs. Feeling very motivated. I failed like twice on the bench, so I know that should be a focal point. I think I should squat a little deeper, so I'll work on that Thursday.

Thursday: 5x5 Squat (70 lbs), 5x5 DL (110 lbs), 5x5 Bench (40 lbs)
Squatted perfectly, increased deadlift. I will feel it tomorrow. I didn't fail on my bench, so I'll keep it like that on Tuesday, and on Thursday up it to 50.

Too young! Too small! Growth stunt!

Just kidding.

You will probably feel doms for the next month or so. Its you getting stronger

Good luck, I weighted about the same at your age (5'6 though). I suggest you do set some lifting goals after a little bit of lifting. It's a good way to remind yourself to lift.

Alright. How much weight should I add, and should I do it every workout, or every week?

I was going to increase my deadlifts, I did that no problem. Perfect my squat form, and keep benching the same until I can successfully do my 5x5 in bench.

How much can I expect to add to each of my lifts if I consistently work out?

Welcome to the logs

I've posted thursday's log. Right now I'm taking vitamin C, omega 3 fish oil, and whey protein. Anything else I should be using?

Supplements are the least important part of the puzzle. 90+% of your results come from hard work.

if you're working hard no one will give you crap about low weights. just work hard and get stronger. read other peoples' logs; you can learn a lot.

So proper programming, recovery, and food fit into the remaining 10%? Seriously though, follow a good routine (like starting strength), eat lots of good food, and get enough sleep. Do so consistently. Supplements are overrated.

My point is I've seen a lot of dudes make some serious gains on what most would call a shit diet and shit program. They bust their asses though and get a lot further on that than most who over analyze and look for a magic supplement.

Diet and programming are important, but without them you can still get results. Without hard, consistent work you won't get shit.

I was just giving you a hard time. Consistent hard work is important, but in my mind following a good program is more important (although if a program is good, it will involve hard work).

Dude, listen closely -- if you are busting ass with your lifting, nobody who knows shit from Shinola will give you grief about low poundages. Seriously. Do what you can, make a sincere effort, and the rewards will come. :D

Good luck with your lifting dude. I wish I found this place when I was 14, damn.

I can definitely feel those deadlifts, and my chest/arms are very sore. I can't get back into the gym until tuesday, so next week is tuesday/thursday again. After that, I'm aiming to get 3 days a week in. I'm going to up my squat 10 pounds, and try to up my bench a little bit.

Wait, when people say how much they lift, do they just mean the weights on the end, or would just the bar be 45? If I put 20 on each end of the bar, is that 40, or 85?

85.

Good to see another younger guy here, I'm 16. I owe this forum all the credit in the world. Since first finding this place I've gained around 30 pounds and upped my lifts by literally hundreds of pounds. Stick around and stay consistent. Good luck.
