Your progress is awesome. Your dedication is really something, this diet doesn't seem to be phasing you whatsoever. Keep it up brother.

I haven't had it tested but I have never felt better.

The science says that there are no negative side effects on cholesterol:
Modification of Lipoproteins by Very Low-Carbohydrate Diets

Most doctors don't know anything about nutrition and I personally have little faith in those outside of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

1 year to this day I began a health transformation journey. In 365 days I lost 162 lbs - a bit shy of the 170 I was shooting for a few weeks ago, but oh well.

I am plateauing a bit.. weight loss has been really slow, 1 lb a week or less. I stopped cheat meals altogether - except for very special occasions, and have begun HIIT (sprinting), but its still plateaued. I think it's from stress - I have been under a lot of stress (job hunt related) and perhaps I am retaining water. But I have been eating less, so I'm not sure how I would otherwise be stagnating.

How is it even physically possible to weigh 437lbs? Congrats on the weight loss, but Christ . . .

There are quite a few old school doctors who don't know much about nutrition, but most of the younger generation themselves are very health-conscious themselves and do know a decent amount. This persons "doctor" could have even been a PA/NP.

What the previous guy said really just didn't make any sense. I'm not an expert on ketosis diets by any means, but I can't imagine losing weight causing cholesterol problems when weight loss -- for most people -- is pretty much the single best lifestyle modifier for correcting cholesterol levels. My guess is that the patient misinterpreted triglycerides to be cholesterol, and his triglycerides were probably through the roof. Which is less predictive for vascular disease than HDL/LDL.

Having said that, I think it's wise to put the most stick in those physicians from the AS of Bariatric Physicians :-P

If you're feeling great, I wouldn't worry about your "health". The only thing, off the top of my head, that I'd be on the lookout for while losing lots of weight intentionally is abdominal pain. There is a condition called SMA syndrome that tends to happen with rapid weight loss where the loss of visceral fat ends up allowing some structures to collapse on one another, and the significant part is the compression of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) which can cause some ischemia. If you start having abdominal pain, definitely get it checked out sooner than later.

Anyway, your thread is absolutely inspirational. Great job!

Congratulations.

If you stop to think about it, 1lb. of weight loss a week consistently isn't bad at all. That's 50+lbs of loss each year. If you keep up your good eating habits, and keep exercising, you'll do fine.

What do your workouts look like?

Yeah but I don't know why its slowed down, I haven't been eating more (actually less). I'd like at least 2 lbs a week, I really want to be at my target weight by this time next year OR sooner.

re: workouts they have been pretty inconsistent, I really need to make them consistent.

Right now I lift at random times, work bag sometimes, sprint sometimes. I also walk everywhere (if I can).

I know this is stupid and counter-productive and I need to make it consistent. Ideally it should be something like: squats + cardio, deadlifts + cardio, press + cardio - at least 3 days a week. Gonna stop being a bitch and make it consistent starting tomorrow.

Find a program and stick to it. Personally I would recommend 5/3/1 which isn't centered around weight loss, at all, but finding a program and sticking to it consistently will be the best thing you can do to lose weight.

I was 256lbs (at my heaviest, I know you're in a different league) and the lbs literally melted off at first, then I got stuck @ 220, then I got stuck @ 200, then I got stuck @ 190 and that's where I'm pretty much stuck at. I know I can go lower than 190 but I'm not willing to go to the extreme's I need to go to get there.

From what I can tell in your pics, you're getting close to your frame's natural size. Personally, to get through the psychology that f's people up when they plateau I've started to instead focus on my body composition rather than my weight. I'm gaining muscle and losing fat now, but I'm staying the same weight. So basically, my muscle gain has began to be equal to and will soon outpace my fat loss, and I'm ok with that now.

Bit of warning, don't do this sort of thing again.

Why should a diet be hell? IMO the best diets are those which are for life. What are you eating?
