“If he was on my team, I would tell him, ‘Man, don’t do this fight now,’” Pereira said at UFC 287 media day on Wednesday. “He’s had a brilliant career but he saw there’s no success against me, so I would definitely advise him against doing this fight now. Fight once or twice, and then come back and try again.”

The issue, Pereira surmised, is that perhaps Adesanya is the one who makes the final call over at Bareman’s City Kickboxing gym in New Zealand.

“I think he’s the man in charge, the one who says, ‘I want this and that’s it,’” Pereira said. “I don’t know. It’s not like myself, Glover [Teixeira], and the team. We talk about things. You have to guide your athlete, because if someone asks a true fighter if he wants to fight someone, he’ll always say yes. But sometimes it’s not the moment.

“That’s why you must have a team where people understand each other. Forget the ego and things will work. Glover and I talk a lot. He has a ton of experience and I definitely listen to him. I think Adesanya didn’t listen. I’m sure many important people told him not to do this, but he has the final word. It’s his ego as a fighter, but OK then, let’s go.”

“Beating him now, I think I’ll never see him again,” Pereira said.

I like Alex, but Izzy is doing the right thing.

It's not like fighting Alex is going to get any easier. Do it now while you're younger and hungrier. Don't risk losing to someone else and missing your shot entirely and don't give yourself an extra hurdle (one that you might not even be motivated for) just to get where you already are. If you get a title shot, take it, especially at this stage in Izzy's career.

Alex is 35, waiting for him to age a bit could actually make it a little bit easier for Izzy.

This isn’t a bad perspective either, also have to take into account Alex might not be champ in a fight or two. Now of course Alex isn’t going to be thinking like that, but still

Izzy not only wants to win the title, he also wants to beat Alex at the same time.

Wait around and lose your opportunity.

There would be no honor in that, so respect to Izzy. There’s a good chance that Pereira loses to Khamzat or Whittaker, then Izzy wouldn’t have the chance for vengeance.

He could have been a coward and waited for Pereira to lose and then take a layup matchup against his son Whittaker, but he didn’t.

I agree. I don't like rematches and would rather see Poatan fight somebody elese but MMA is too unpredictable to let opportunities go away and title opportunities are too rare.

What if Izzy let Poatan fight somebody else, and in the meantime something crazy like Khamzat beating Paulo Costa and becoming the next contender. That's two years in waiting mode.

Plus anyone can lose at anytime and risk his chances even more.
Aldo could've finished his carreer with a title shot against Aljo but decide to take a nonsense fight with Merab just to keep busy and look what happened.

Poatan seems so much smarter and less impulsive than Izzy.

This. It's also why Pereira continuously beats Izzy.

Pereira waits for the long play, chipping away at Izzy's movement, gradually limiting that movement, so that Adesanya can be cornered and finished.

Hopefully Alex puts him away for good now. I don’t want a fifth fight next
Shertard, Izzy is 0 and 3. How can you possibly think Alex has any chance. You only look at the fact that Alex won all 3 fights so far. You don't see the smaller details that izzy also landed a punch.
