Media Arman Tsarukyan turned down offer for Islam Makhachev rematch

I prefer their rematch is planned properly because their first fight was also on short notice.

Their rematch will likely be soon, with Islam as champ and Arman as his first TS.

I can see Islam getting (and winning) his title fight by the end of the year, but I have a hard time seeing Arman get to the top 5 that quickly. Perhaps by the end of 2023, depending on his activity and if he gets the right matchups.

Highly doubt it brother. Arman looks like the guy who will have to put together a very long winstreak ala Usman, Holloway, etc.

I agree, I meant the rematch would be Arman's first TS not Islam's first title defence. I reworded my post to clarify better.

Yeah Arman has some fights ahead of him but I think he'll get a TS and I think Islam will be champ when he does.

This is reasonable since it could derail all his momentum and he has much more to lose compared to Green.

IMO someone like Gregor Gillespie should've stepped up since he's been going on about how top competition is ducking him and is rarely active since the Lee loss.
He's also 34 and would need a big win to place him in contention.

that's a stupid rematch at this point in their careers for the matchmakers to be thinking of, really (even - or perhaps, especially - as 'last minute replacement' style stuff)

Islam vs. Arman was the best display of grappling I've ever seen in a UFC octagon.

Must watch fight. One of the best ever IMO.

With that being said, good decision by Arman not to take the fight.
He's only 25, why lose for a second time to the same guy?

Do you know if they asked Alvarez to fight Islam?

@Busgosu you got any insight? I think it would have been a huge opportunity for Alvarez, but i suspect it wasn't offered to him.

I'm confused, how does islam beat oliveira?? I see islam beating everyone else in the division, but dont see a path to victory for him against oliveira

Being the replacement for short notice fights is almost always a bad idea; the only 4 exceptions are

1. when they offer a ton of money to save an event with little risk to your career like they did to Anderson
2. title fights where you won't get one otherwise like Bisping vs Rockhold
3. fights like Nate vs Conor where it was a great match up and a huge profile fight (I guess it also falls under the first exception)
4. if you are like Sam Alvey and stay in the Ufc by being a company man.

Why do you think they specifically jumped Alvarez when asking who to face Islam?

Alvarez was ranked #15 up until a week or two ago, so he's probably still higher on the list than Bobby Green.
