From Usman's perspective I just don't see what the point or benefit in him fighting Khamzat is. If he beats Khamzat people will still say GSP is the goat. And also people will say Khamzat was green or overrated or both. He'll get paid the same whether he fights Khamzat or Leon or any other WW. So I just don't see the incentive here. The risk is greater than the reward. I totally understand USman retiring before Khamzat. And to me he's still would be the goat. He already passed gsp by winning 15 straight, beating better comp and not getting KOed by Matt Serra

Because Khamzat would destroy him. He went life and death with Colby twice who gsp would easily beat without breaking a sweat. Gsp has way more title defenses it’s not even close . Gsp goat by far. clown

Usman is a legit BMF. People using too much hyperbole when talking about Khamzat. Khamzat can bleed too.

He fights for money, fighting a hype train on PPV seems like the ideal fight for a champion...one extra defense is always good, also, stop looking for GOAT every weekend on a sport thats still relatively new.

Exactly, his point is basically that he thinks Khamzat is better than anyone else Usman can face so Usman should duck him lol

Usman fighting Khamzat has nothing to do with being better than GSP. It's about Usman basically rematching guys he blew out of the water already or facing the only other guy in the division to look like a killer. The fight has to happen and if it doesn't in 2022 I will be very disappointed.

Its a fun fight. Sets a precedent to for young fighters . Go in there. Try your hardest. Accept anyone and good things can happen.

Also he will not get paid the same fighting Leon. Leon is a anti hype machine. Most people will probably skip the Usman vs Edwards rematch. Or they won't even realize it is happening because of the lack luster hype generated by Leon. PPV sales will be bleak as all heck fighting Leon Edwards. Khamzat is the bomb. Will bring the buys. Dude talks the talk and walks the walk. Usman is a champ. He gets paid a % of the ppv buys. It is in his best interest to duck schmucks like Leon for a second time and go after the guys like Diaz, Khamzat and Canner. Win win for the champ, exciting fighters and the fans.

If they fought today, Usman would probably win. I know there's a ton of hype behind Khamzat, but he'll lose a decision if he fights Usman right now. The jump in competition would be too much IMO. He needs a few more fights. I would favor him in the rematch though.

As for GSP being the GOAT welterweight, Usman would need to dominate a couple more years. He's probably too old to do that as a WW. I think he'd beat prime GSP in a hypothetical match up, but GSP has a much better resume and is still more accomplished in the sport at this point. You also have the whole nostalgia thing. I mean, look at how many people on here think Fedor is the GOAT heavyweight for basically beating Big Nog and Cro-Cop. It's laughable when you really think about it, and Fedor is probably my all time favorite fighter.

What's really going to hurt Usman's chances of being looked at like the GOAT is GSP coming back after 5 years and taking the middle weight strap. Yes, it was a favorable match up, but that was pretty legendary. If Usman beat Khamzat and then went up and wrestlefucked Adesanya before retiring, he would have a good argument. I think he would beat Khamzat if they fought today, but Adesanya would definitely tool him up on the feet if he couldn't take him down at will. while I do think Usman would take Izzy down, I don't think he could keep him there, and eventually I think Izzy would hurt him the same way Anderson did to most the great grapplers he faced. I think people are confused about Izzy's take down defense and grappling from the Jan fight after seeing a MUCH bigger man control him. Usman is a beast, but he's not walking into that cage weighing almost 230lbs. Jan is a true monster tor a LHW.

There is no point in Kamaru fighting Khamzat...unless:

1) Khamzat becomes a title contender.
2) Kamaru is still champion if Khamzat does become a title contender.

Prime for prime, its definitely possible Usman beats GSP but thats not what GOAT is about. Its about a totality including: length of reign as champ/#1, number of title defenses along with top 5 & top 10 wins (rankings at the time of the fight).

Usman has 5 title defenses (vs 9 for GSP), but 4 of Usman's defenses are against 2 guys. You could argue about whether or not Mas even deserved 1 title fight (I personally think Mas is awesome but you could make a good case he didn't even deserve 1 title fight, no idea why Usman insisted on a rematch). Then Usman fought life & death vs Colby twice (I think Usman legit won the rematch, but it was still very close & competitive, 1st fight also until the TKO). Burns fight, Usman was almost finished. So yea, he's got 5 title defenses but he didn't really look dominating to me, given all the circumstances. Its not at all clear cut that he's the GOAT, even if you argue prime for prime, he'd beat GSP (that's not what GOAT is about)

The hype is there. That's what he would be fighting against. He would be fighting to kill the hype. The hype wouldn't be there for no reason and the fighters constantly ducking him builds more hype for him unintentionally. The champion fights all challengers and the ones with the biggest hype regardless of ranking should also be in the champion's radar.

Today? Right. And more importantly he hasn’t earned it yet, regardless of what the bandwagonners hype up about.

But if he wins 1 or 2 more? Because champions are supposed to fight contenders, that’s faakn why.

GSP groupies are out in force. The most insecure fanbase in all of MMA.
