With spear/sword, pillow fists don't matter. Who'd be the ultimate gladiator?

Watching skilled strikers with not enough power to often get knock outs (specifically Strickland this time), I thought in ancient times where blades and tipped weapons were used, point fighters would be more dangerous, who would put their skills to best use?

Some that came to mind:

Jon Jones isn't known for his punching power, but long range so he could use that well.

Sean O'Malley with a very high accuracy could do some damage.

Adesanya or Dominick Cruz with high defensive ability, staying alive increases your chances no doubt.

Ngannou with a spear or a bo staff (or anything long he can stab with) is basically a shotgun. His opponent might get dismantled by some stabs. Legs and arms pop off like a Mr. Potato Head.

Sorry, he has no gender anymore. Now he/she/it/they is just Potato Head. He seems kinder and less toxic this way.

Matt Riddle wouldn't be punching at air nor would that female fighter - I forget who it was. Bring on the weapons!

Because Francis is african he can chuck a spear the best?

Fencing is all point fighting and that's an Olympic sport

Anderson SIlva had an amazing accuracy and sense of distance.
I recall someone saying Silva would stop millimeters from hitting them in training.

actually since they wore armor strength was very important.

Who is supposed to answer that with any degree of assurity?

Criteria number 1.. Absolutely fearless (How many UFC fighters have signed a contract to fight Ngannou?) and able to keep a clear mind under extreme pressure.

Number 2.. Training with weapons is a clear advantage.

Number 3.. Is this really a topic in the heavies??

You don’t walk into gladitorial combat with no training unless you are fodder.

KO power is related to how hard you can throw anything. People who don't hit hard, don't throw far, for example. Same would happen with a spear - jabs wouldn't be as penetrating from a pillowfister.

Obviously, the extra distance and technique would play a big role, but, at the end of the day, a spear cannoned from Francis hands could blast through your fucking armor.

Probably the best grappler with full European plate armor and a dagger to stick through the joints of the enemy's armor.
