“You are correct; a hundred percent correct. But I’m not, at the moment, willing to talk about this particular subject. At the moment, I’m sorry, boys. I can’t.” Bareman added, “It’s one hundred percent the correct observation. The correct observation – He’s not being nowhere near pushed the way he should. But there’s stuff that I can’t talk about regarding that. So, I’ll just leave it as a no comment. But your assumption is correct. They can. At least I agree with that.”

What do you think it is he can't say?

Do you agree?

Might be because he's an anime nerd who humps his opponents after winning, and is also incredibly thin skinned, clearly used to be a bully victim but also manages to come off as arrogant too

None of that bothers me because he's a fantastic fighter but he's never going to get the same push as a Jack the lad type like C Mac

Yea... I feel ever since that Jan loss the UFC hasn't promoting him as much. Izzy used to this constant presence looming over the MMA landscape but now it feels like he only comes up when it's fight time. I always assume it was due the NZ's lockdowns but it feels like Bareman is hinting to something bigger playing out behind the scenes

The guy himself says “I know you hate this…” after winning. Basically telling the fans he knows he’s a douche but he’ll keep being one and to go fuck themselves.

I mean you reap what you sow right?

I think he got a pretty decent push, especially compared to other fighters with star potential.
The UFC can only do so much.

If anyone deserves a bigger push it's Volk, Oliveira, and Fiziev.
Those three have been phenomenal recently and are super entertaining.

I mean, they pushed him onto an undeserved title shot at LHW and he didn't deliver, why would they keep pushing him again after that? If he beats Whittaker again I'm sure they'll go back to hyping him up, but right now, with him not having a 0 anymore, there's no angle.

Izzy has had some real stinkers lately. He doesn't really have a crowd pleasing style and that Jan loss really hurt his marketability.

He was getting pushed massively. He is also promoting himself more now which is good because you can't expect to just have UFC do all your promotion. Conor was the same way, he actually promoted himself more than the UFC. He just used the UFC promotion machine to promote himself more but he was always a self-promoter.

Izzy just didn't catch on like Conor here in USA. Conor was known for finishing fights, Conor was trying to get a finish in every fight and before the Diaz loss he was finishing every fight. That's one of the biggest reasons for his star power as well. That's the reason why Masvidal blew up because he had back to back finishes in a short amount of time and one of them being the fastest UFC KO ever. Casual fans like finishes, that's why Anderson Silva did so well even though he wasn't speaking english.

The anime stuff doesn't matter, a lot of hip-hop/rap artists incorporate anime into their music and visuals. There's a lot of people into anime, more than the people not into it. So that doesn't have anything to do with him being less popular. I think it comes more from the loss and the fights he's had that were lackluster as the biggest reasons. That's why Diaz and Masvidal even though losing didn't lose much hype. Those people are more of a fan of their fighting styles and knowing what type of fight to expect in their fights. Izzy came off a loss to Jan and not a very exciting win vs Vettori. So his hype isn't the same as it was after knocking out Whittaker and Costa. If he gets a finish vs Whittaker or if the fight is high intensity like the Gastelum fight he'll bring hype back up again.

If you want the attention and not go for finishes, you have to go the Floyd route and trigger lots of people. But then you also have to make the fights look easy like Floyd does with the majority of his fights.

Honestly, I thought they were promoting well above what he was delivering. Which is crazy to say considering he's a champ. Seems like for every great fight he has, there's two where he coasts. Not like he's the only one guilty of it, but most people aren't being pitched as "future GOAT" or being compared to Anderson Silva (who, admittedly, had similar consistency issues).

But it's not all Izzy's fault either. Matchmaking at MW got messed up big when they served up Cannonier and Hermansson (two contenders Izzy hadn't fought) to people Izzy beat. It killed that division. And while you could argue that Izzy taking a shot at LHW was a bit premature, it was an oddly justified move on the UFC's part considering how the MW division got messed up. That gamble didn't pay off either though, so now Izzy is left with a bunch of rematches that feel like empty exercises, while missing his big shot for stardom.

Kind of a shame really...

He have a lot of qualities to be a star but his shitty attitude and actions will hold him back.
Shitty attitude??? As in loving to stay active? Cutting his own promos and calling out his opponents? Being outspoken? Wanting to take on all challenges? Israel is as professional as any fighter there's been inside and outside the octagon. You people are strange.

It doesn't help when you go up a weight class just to get wrestle fucked and lose your unbeaten streak.

Really? he seems to be one of the most promoted guys there
I think MW being a Meh division and him having those super boring fights like against romero hold him down a little bit
He's a supreme striker with KO power, but his fights only go that way if his opponent is willing to pressure and attack
Otherwise you have boring fights like against romero ( all time boring) and vettori 2 etc

They pushed him by giving him a shot with Jan. He lost the fight. He also had a title shot in less than two years? They pushed him enough.
