It's a good thing that Gane tried the leglock

Imagine the shit storm he would have received if he had managed to win the title by point fighting for 2 rounds, and then lay on top for the last round ...
He went for the kill, sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

He will learn trumendusly from that loss and grow as a better fighter by fixing his holes + Ngannou can negociate a better contract

Why do people keep saying he went for a leglock. Gane got scisor swept.
And yes, he is very young and will learn a lot from tthat loss. Not many people went for 5R vs Ngannou without taking much damage.

He got swept and then went for the lock.
This is so obvious to me, too.
And no shame in that. He was going to win that fight without this mistake. Every fighter makes mistakes. Gane is young and will learn from that mistake.

Gane is still a young man, he's insanely talented and in 2 years his grappling will be really good..

He'll be the next champ.

War Gane

War Ngannou

Two legends / class acts, really like these guys.

He went for the setup for the leglock and that's why he got swept. Here is a better angle at 1:40.

The video doesn't prove your point. Gane lifts his left leg and immediately gets scissor swept. What he does after could just be his reaction to getting swept.

What do you think he was doing with his left knee/leg?
Ngannou drops his guard first, Gane starts bringing his leg up after, could be to try and step over or post so he can slide his knee. He got swept before he could do or set up anything so it doesn't matter. Francis swept him.

*edit* matter of fact, this angle almost proves more to me that he wasn't trying to go for the leg, because it looks as if the direction of his movement was forward towards the gate of the guard, not inward towards the isolated leg.

Heavyweight sucks. Without Stipe and DC it’s lame af. The two best fighters are boring. One is a point fighter and the other a 270 pound behemoth afraid of getting ko’d. Just ugh

It's a logical conclusion to such a match. You have one guy you can KO you if he just brushes you face with his fist. The other guy lands on you and counters you as soon as you do anything, making you gas and taking points away.
Yes it was a disapointing fight but the stakes were very high. I knew it was going to be like that.
The 2 completely unforeseen things are:
- Ngannou' fight IQ changing strategy mid-fight and starting to grapple to win a decision (I never, ever could have guessed that this was going to happen)
- Gane getting scisor swept after being 2-2 and being ahead in the 5th.

He could be trying to stand up or step over to pass Ngannou's guard. You don't know because he makes one small movement and immediately gets swept.

Still looks to me like he was trying to pass but didn’t have the grips so he started getting swept and then dropped back to grab a leg because it was the only thing he could do other than just give up position.

Yeah it sure was better when 40 year old DC held up the division for 3 years fighting Stipe.
