With DC having retired for a while, how do you looking back at it remember his career? Is he your HW or LHW Or P4P GOAT? Top 3? Top 5?

case for:

Beat big foot silva, monson, Mir, Derrick Lewis and Stipe (when Stipe when young as a buck).
Won Strikeforce as an alternate
UFC Gold at HW and LHW

case against:
After beating an elderly MW(hendo) and literally a barista (Cummins) he got a shot at Jones and well was outclassed.
He only has a mere 20 or so wins in his entire career. And the 6-8 of those against guys no one has heard of.
Was never the best LHW for any extended period (behind bones always) or HW (behind Stipe) or even fighter in his own camp (Khabib and Cain at hw).
Never won gold at Olympics
Is second fiddle to Rogan at play by play and being a company

I'll always wonder what could have been if Cormier had started his MMA career 3-5 years earlier.

Jones best W of his entire career so far. That's saying something.

2nd best LHW of all-time no doubt.

Just outside the top 5 on the GOAT list for me.

He's great, but you gotta have more defenses

If getting a belt in two divisions is such a big deal Conor is a P4P GOAT lol

Like Big Nog, Tony, Randleman, and Frank Shamrock(to name just a few)....history will not remember how great they actually were.

1st off, you didn't mention his 2 Ws over Rumble who was other 6-0 at LHW with flawless victories over Davis, Bader, Gust, & Glover.

But to answer the question, top 8-12. Could have been top 5 if he took the Stipe rematch instead of opting for Lewis.

It would have been Stipe's 3rd fight in 10 months, after the damage vs Ngannou & the KO vs DC just 4 months earlier. DC would have KO'd him again & rode off into the sunset, with his only loss being against serial PED abuser Juice Jones.

I will say tho, if Lewis can beat Ngannou again, & then defend vs Stipe, that would enhance DC's resume a little bit more.

Well Conor is > DC. His work at FW alone triumphs over DCs rather sample small size of wins in the two worst divisions in mma.

Pause and think about this: while hw is an obvious sh*t show, at LHW Chuck friggin Liddells actual training partner is about to fight for a well deserved and long overdue title shot against a nearly forty year ksw write off! Yes a Chuck Liddell era guy and his primary training partner lol

Yeah those divisions are so weak, and it's a lot easier to go from LHW to HW, than FW to LW

I bet 90% of Sherdog would rank DC over Conor though

skillwise he's high, but being the 2nd best guy for the majority of his career and losing to Stipe twice after his initial win makes it seem like he was only "the best" at HW and it was very short.

it's really a shame he was friends with Cain. i think had he stayed at HW his entire career he'd definitely be an ATG HW and be GOAT talks for sure. but as it is, that's all just my opinion and his perceived potential. the fact is he was the best HW for 13 months with a single title defense and never was the best LHW in the world.
