400m on a 400m track

    On Rodeo with a shotgun on a quiet, peaceful day
    I'm sure Lane 1 is 400 meters around since I believe during a 400m race the runner in lane 1 starts at the "finish line".

    There are tracks that are 400 meters and 440 yards which is about 402 meters. I think that is where the confusion lies.

    unless you're hoping to become a 400m runner in some competitive atmosphere, I doubt the difference is relevant to any training you might undertake.
