27 years ago...Ali vs. Berbick.

again opinions is all they is barerra won the first fight, gatti won the first fight ans so forth....frazier never kciked his ass in the first fight a
...wepner was the kind of guy jack dempsey would claim as a legit opponent
...he has never been knocked out like dempsey has
...ali>>>>>>>>>>>>dempsey
....i dare say that far more embarrasing than getting you're foot troden on and pushed over by a journey man but a respectable journey man

Ali was a sucker for a left hook.....Banks and Frazier dropped him with left hooks and Norton broke his jaw with one.....it was his Achilles tendon, but the best beard in boxing history allowed him to get by.

Don't forget Brad....Dempsey had his off nights too.... Fat ass Willie Meehan took 2 decisions off of him and "Fireman" Jim Flynn knocked Dempsey out in 1 round after decking him three times......Sharkey had Dempsey on Queer St. until a low blow backed him off.....Tunney won 19 of the 20 rounds they fought and decked Dempsey in the Long Count fight.....etc. etc.
......And don't believe that Dundee story about buying Ali time in the corner by cutting the glove....it's all urban legend. Watch the corner in between rounds.....Dundee never touches the gloves.

So there......Take that....:icon_chee
What, well, I never...!

You guys are WAAAY off-topic; ^ what does all this have to do with this thread which is about Trevor Berbick whupping Muhammad Ali's @$$ that time?

Berbick got blown out by Tyson a few years later, down 3 times from 1 punch.

Tyson is greater than Berbick...Berbick is greater than Ali...
therefore Tyson is greater than Ali.

Tyson is greater than Holmes...Holmes is greater than Ali...
therefore Tyson is greater than Ali.

Tyson is greater than Holmes...Holmes is greater than Berbick...Berbick is greater than Ali
therefore Tyson is greater than Ali and Berbick who fought 27 years ago.

And Dempsey is everything Tyson wanted to be but never could be.

um you're previous post was completely off topic so i dont know why you are complaing for

and i cant work out if you are being serious or just taking the piss now with that logic

so i will ask you now are you just taking the piss with that logic?

cos here's a good one

Mzonke Fana beat Ali Funeka who knocked out zahir raheem who beat erik morales who beat marco antonio barrera

therefore mzonke fana is better than both erik morales and marco antonio barerra right?

ok just so i got that straight then because it is awfully confusing how many people have applied such a mathamatic logic to their arguments

I think it's a tragedy that the fights with Holmes and Berbick were ever even made.

You didn't have to be a doctor to know something was wrong with Ali BEFORE those fights were even signed.

Ali got by on experience, toughness, and conning them a bit in those last fights into thinking he still had something up his sleeve (which he really didn't). The Spinks fights in 1978, the Shavers fight in 1977.
If only he'd walked away after the Thrilla in Manila in 1975.
Instead he fought 10 more times after that where he was getting hit a lot.

Unfortunately that's how it goes with elite fighters.

It's their self-definition; fighting is all they've ever known.

Holyfield is another sad example.

Muhammad Ali is one of the Greatest Heavyweight Champions in Boxing history, many say the Greatest. Even detractors would probably still put him in the Top 3 of All-Time out of a talent pool of thousands upon thousands of Heavyweights over the past 116 years.

.

I hate doing lists like that anymore, but if I was to rate boxing's greatest heavyweights, I might be able to find a spot for Ali somewhere in the top 10.

Out of interest who would you have as #1? And who would rate as being a definitely better Heavyweight than Ali?

A couple of good questions.

But hey, did you know that Rebecca Holloway was only 12 years old when a certain somebody started a relationship with her in 1975, and only 14 when she became pregnant and had a child?

12 years old for fuck sakes!

Yeah, it's amazing how certain charismatic box-office draws like De La Hoya, Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, Evander Holyfield, and Muhammad Ali all come out roses in the face of scandal when so many others are crucified for their indiscretions.

Please explain?

Sharkey and I have a semi-running thing with Ali. He states something outrageous and I reply. He has an axe to grind concerning Mr. Ali and has obviously devoted much of his spare time to digging up rumours and so forth. Whether this last one is true or not, I don't know. It is disturbing but in all my readings on Ali I've never seen anything like this. If it were true I think it would prove devestating to his legacy possibly. Most great men take what other men can't get, and they usually choose the young most nubile they can, usually around 16-18 but 12? That's sick. Elvis did it too. Nothing right about it. Ali was raised well enough and knew right from wrong and also had enough decent people around him to avoid this sort of thing so I have to say I don't believe it.

I consider Ali the "Greatest" Heavyweight in history.....On the night that he KO'd Cleveland Williams....That Ali, on that night ,could've beaten any heavyweight that ever lived....

But....

Ali the human being leaves much to be desired. Often he did not practice what he preached and hurt alot of folks along the way. He became larger than boxing when he refused induction into the Armed Services, but some of the folks closest to him (Sugar Ray being one of them) said that it wasn't religous conviction that kept Ali from stepping forward but rather a healthy fear for Elijah Muhammed.....Alot of Ali mythology was created by the press and biased biographers. Ali never threw his Olympic medal into the Ohio River in an act of rage.....his father told others that Ali simply lost the medal and could'nt find it....and on and on.....There's alot of bullshit connected to Ali over the years and it's pretty hard to seperate the raisons from the ratshit when looking for the truth.

The name Sharkey brings up I never heard before, and I thought I had read everything there was out there to read on Ali. One of the books on Ali mentions a mystery lover and is pretty vague on the details......Maybe this was the same gal that Sharkey mentions.

I dunno......

why would he fear elijah muhammad for?

I will defend ali on this one because it's not like he was going to be put into the line of combat anyway if he had gone

i have just done some research and I cant find shit all i can find is that ali married a 17 year old girl when he was 25 years old whether or not sharley counts that as :eek::eek::eek:philia or not i dont know

I dont know if sharkley was even referring to ali but if he was to accuse somebody of a crime like :eek::eek::eek:phillia with out any proof is pathetic and sad

maybe sharkley has confused muhamad with muhammad ali not too sure

No, the mystery lover you mention I believe had one of his daughters but was also mentioned in other books and seen on documentaries. As far as Ali, the muslims etc.., I really am not sure what to believe, lots of mythmaking to be sure. Somebody is revising history and I haven't figured out who yet. Ali was a strong person, I don't know if the Muslims actually manipulated him. As with any public figure, there are always a myriad of angles taken by various biographers. What's true or not I don't know. I've heard contrasting stories from all kinds of people close to ali about all kinds of things in his life. I do know Sharkey has a true and rare animus for the man for whatever reason and has put things online which I have pointed out are not accurate before.

Ummm, I don't make shit like that up, thank you.

Chicago Woman Suing Ali

An 18-year-old Chicago woman who says she was Muhammad Ali's mistress at age 12 and bore his child at age 14 has filed a lawsuit demanding $3-million from the former heavyweight boxing champion. The woman, identified as Rebecca Jean Holloway, says in the civil suit that Ali was the father of a son she gave birth to in 1977 and that Ali stopped seeing her after the boy, who she named Osmon, was born. "She's beautiful, oh yes, she is," said the woman's attorney, Theodore H. Zimmerman of Chicago. But he declined to give many details of the case, saying that "at this time I would rather not give any interviews or even see any publicity on the matter. The fact that we filed this lawsuit doesn't mean we don't have a great deal of respect for Muhammad Ali," Zimmerman said. "It's a situation where I'm basically preserving the rights of my client. I would hate to see something come out publicly that would blacken his (Ali's) name."

- wired report dated Apr 25th, 1981, which appeared in many different sources at the time, including the St. Petersburg Times where this is being taken from directly

Like what?

You and I have only really talked about Ali with the sparring sessions he was knocked down in, and maybe you were involved in one in regards to him ducking his mandatories for a few years. But other than those two, which you certainly did not point out were inaccurate...what else, Moz?
