Fox Orders 24: LEGACY Spinoff Pilot with a New Male Lead

24-Jack-Bauer-City-090114-Dragonlord.jpg

Fox has ordered a pilot for a new 24 series. The new iteration of 24 won't likely look too much like the event series or the original. The behind-the-scenes team, however, has a lot of familiar faces. Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz are all back on board as executive producers.

Sources tell THR that the new incarnation of 24, dubbed 24: Legacy, will not feature any returning cast. Insiders say the network is looking to make the reboot diverse, with its lead character said to be an African-American guy in his 20s. Gary Newman confirmed to reporters after Fox's Television Critics Association press session that the role would indeed be diverse as the network is looking to make the role as "different from Jack Bauer as possible."

The project will revolve around said lead, a military hero recently returned to the U.S. — and the trouble that follows him back. He teams up with the original series' CTU agency to help save his life and — you guessed it — stop a large-scale terror attack on American soil.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON Actor is the New Lead in 24: LEGACY

Corey-Hawkins-24-Legacy-Dragonlord.jpg

Fox is ready to start the clock on 24: Legacy. The network has tapped Straight Outta Compton breakout and The Walking Dead actor Corey Hawkins to star, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Fox's new take features an all-new cast of characters and will be structured in the same style of the original series. Legacy revolves around a military hero's return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Hawkins will star as Eric Carter, a strong and smart guy who came from a rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife, Nicole, he's pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.

Manny Coto and Evan Katz will pen the script and exec produce 20th Century Fox Television's Legacy alongside Teakwood Lane's Howard Gordon and Imagine TV's Brian Grazer. Stephen Hopkins will direct the pilot, which was formally announced this month at TCA.

Hawkins currently recurs on AMC's The Walking Dead as comic book character Heath, a key member of the Alexandria Safe Zone. The actor's casting on Legacy comes in addition to the AMC zombie drama. If Legacy goes on to earn a series order, it's unclear if he would be able to juggle roles on both dramas.

The casting comes off of a banner 2015 for Hawkins. In addition to booking Walking Dead, he starred as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton. He's repped by ICM and Jackoway Tyerman. He next appears in Kong: Skull Island. The Juilliard grad previously starred in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway.

I would say "No Bauer = No Watch," but as much of a Jack Bauer fan as I am, I'll give the new direction a shot.

I can't watch this show without Keirer/Jack.

Also, who the hell is this Hawkin's character on walking dead? He a season 6 character, because I'm caught up to the end of season 5 and he doesn't look at all familiar to me.

First, I'm royally pissed off the last time we're ever going to see Jack is when he turns himself into the Russians to supposedly rot in their prisons for the rest of his life.

Second. Keifer Sutherland is 24. Zero chance this reboot is going to achieve the same ratings as the better 24 seasons, without Keifer.

Thirdly, has Corey Hawkins displayed any crossover appeal toward all audience demographics?

This is a poor move by Fox. The 12-episode season was very successful and brought back what made 24 great, without stretching past when the quantity was at expense of the quality. So now they do this.

Very poor move.

My hope is that we still get a continuation of the Jack Bauer story someday. Probably not, but I can hope.

Worst case scenario - They bring him back for an episode to kill him off.

That reminds me of the BBC's 'Strike Back' which had the actor in The Hobbit that played the leader of the dwarfs, play an MI-5 opperative. It was a very interesting first season that ended with him being captured by terrorists.

Then, the show was transfered over to Showtime here in the states, was given two American leads, and they brought back the actor that played the MI-5 operative to be unceremoniously killed off in the first scene of the first episode.

That killed any interest I had in the show.

Miranda Otto to Play the Female Lead in 24: LEGACY

Miranda-Otto-24-Legacy-Dragonlord.jpg

Homeland graduate Miranda Otto has been tapped to star in the network's reboot of the Kiefer Suthlerland franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The new take features an all-new cast of characters and will be structured in the same style of the original series. 24: Legacy revolves around a military hero's (Straight Outta Compton's Corey Hawkins) return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Otto will star as Rebecca Ingram, the blazingly smart former head of CTU. Now married to Sen. John Donovan (not yet cast), she struggles with second thoughts about having left the counter-terrorism agency.

The part comes after Otto's series-regular role on Showtime's Homeland came to an end in 2015. Otto's credits include features The Lord of the Ring films, The Homesman and War of the Worlds.

If the new series doesn't suck, I'm thinking this might be a good move for the 24 franchise down the line. They create a new world with new characters. And when Kiefer returns in the future, they can do a big crossover event that will have fans of both shows buzzing and get the attention of casual viewers. It's like what happened with the Fast & Furious films and what's going to happen with xXx 3.

24 ran its course by the end of season five. This shit is tired and stale.

I'm not tired of 24 and wanted more. They made great characters like Jack, Chloe, Tony, Strahovski, and not building on that. That stinks.

the American version of strike back is one of the best action shows ever made. the richard armitage u.k strike back was cool too . my favorite scene was when he hid a swiss army knife in his rectum to escape after having himself caught and taken to the hostages location .
