205 Is A Pretty Weak Division

The division is not weak but it always looks like that when you have an exceptionally dominant champion.
Middle weight looked horrible during Anderson silva's reign because nobody could touch him, it's the same with Jones.
The division is not weak, it's just that Jones is that good.
The future of the division are Reyes, Rakic, and Walker.

Rockhold & Weidman could spice things up. Reyes if for real. I'm also very high on Rakic, Cutelaba, Walker, & Menifield. 4 fights to book this spring that could breathe new life into the division:

Weidman vs Latifi

Surely it would just make a shallow division even shallower. Remove Jones and DC and Gus would probs be champion. Sure a couple of the up and comers like Reyes have potential but this is by far the most shallow division on the men's side. Only reason it doesn't get shit on more is because of the quality of DC and Jones and the joke of WMMA divisions at both 125 and 145.

Jones is champ, great fighter controversy aside.

DC should never go back to 205.

Gus just looked terrible, plus he is pretty inactive.

Smith is tough as hell, but technically he is not on the same level as above.

Jan is a great fighter, but probably not champion material.

Volkan has power, but once again probably not champion material.

Anderson has come a long way, but he will never be champ.

Santos is probably the most fun fighter to watch in this division, but he just doesn't have the wrestling or ground game that some of the others have.

Reyes is one of the few good things about this division, ready to see him against a top 5.

Latifi is a fun fighter to watch, but he just can't beat the top 5.

Manuwa is old

OSP is the ultimate gatekeeper

Glover is getting old, but still is strong as a bull. His ground game is among the best in the division.

Shogun is where he is.

Cirkunov lost some momemtum.

Krylov is back, but he got fucked up by Jan recently.

Basically most of the division is past their prime and they are just hanging on. It is a shame because it use to be the best division in the earlier days. You had Chuck, Tito, Rampage, Wanderlei, Griffin, Randy, Machida, Rashad, and Vitor. Those were the golden years of 205. They were not only great fighters, but extremely recognizable and marketable. It was just perfect in hindsight.

Jones makes the division look weaker. This division has been cleaned more or less since 2012. We're at least starting to get a new guard, everyone from that time period is gone or a gatekeeper.

Bellator also took away Bader and Davis who were at the front of the line when they signed, kept away a handful of other good 205 talents like McGreary.

Gus got injured in the first round of that fight of course he looked terrible.

Shogun,Glover and OSP lost to Jones, they are still interesting they just can't fight for title. Most other talent who lost to Jones ragequit to MW or Bellator once they found out they couldn't get another shot, Evans got hurt. Heck Rumble ragequit just from knowing he couldn't get a shot at DC. Most other divisions don't have this issue. Take away their inability to beat Jones out of the picture and Volkan and Smith look more exciting. Santos and Reyes even more agree they are the most exciting rn. Rockhold's interesting.

On paper the divisions far better. All the guys Jones beat including DC had the dimensions of MW, 6 feet, all the new prospects are at least Forrest sized and Jones will not have his excessive size advantages. Gus might not be capable of winning against a prepared Jones but one of these new guys likely will. Just remember how the division looks once Jones retires. MW was a cleaned out division one week and a death row the next once AS lost.

Don't forget Mike Rodriguez. He's a lot better than what we saw in the Devin Clark fight. Clark could turns things around too.
