2025 Motorsports Thread

Yeah that's kind of the deal with any sport. I've always been able to get my girlfriends into sports because I start telling them random quips about the players so they wind up getting to know who they are instead of them just being a number with a name on the back.

Aero has kind of made Nascar a bit F1 like with the passing difficulty and more pit road strategy and fuel saving coming into play.

There's some exciting guys out there like Ross Chastain. Came from a watermelon farm and really worked his way up through the ranks driving for some really bad teams but showing that he had more speed in those shitty cars than anyone else that drove them. Eventually he got to cup, is in a pretty good ride and gets to do cool shit like this.

Dude was out of the playoffs when he entered turn 3 and in the playoffs when he crossed the line. That FedEx #11 car was knocked out of the playoffs when Chastain passed him there.

playoffs make sports amateurish nd what not that is main reason i see american sport amateur but to have play off in racing that is realy stupid

Xfinity 48 car driven by Parker Kligerman got screwed too. 2 laps to go and a car was buried in the tire barrier. Kligerman was about to win his first race ever, which was going to keep him in the playoffs. If he finishes 2nd, he's out of the playoffs.

Nascar waits until his car is 3ft from a guaranteed victory before throwing the yellow. So close that he thought he won the race and started crying in the car, only to have Nascar force everyone to restart again, which cost him the race.

Just pointless drama for no real reason. Either throw the caution as soon as the car is buried in the fence or let him cross the line and win the race. Don't snatch it from him a few feet before the line.

The 7 tweeks McLaren did on our car has fucked us completely. We literally had the perfect car.

So if Max got away with it in the first lap why are the pitchforks out for Lando?

5 points gained for Max this weekend, let's go!

Yeah, for sure. When you know you’ve gained an unfair advantage, give the spot back immediately and get on with business.
Stewards appreciate that.

I just don’t understand the penalty for forcing another driver off the track. Surely when lando was ahead at the apex ( his team said he was) and max not staying on track is forcing lando to go wide. That should have been a penalty on both imo.

@Pliny Pete @PRIDEWASBETTER @RollSonnenRoll Apparently this is considered the best NASCAR race of all time?

It is. The point race legitimately came down to the last race and they didn’t have to manufacture it like they do now. Kulwicki won by only a few points and he was the last owner/driver to win the cup. Hooters was just a small regional chain at the time. It was a true underdog story. It’s also famous for being Richard Petty’s last race and Jeff Gordon’s first so it’s symbolic of passing of the old era to the new. Small teams, small sponsors and the old school guy’s last stand.

Kulwicki dying in a plane crash about 6 months later also adds to the mystique of it

I remember Davey Allison dying in 93 (something to do with a helicopter?) but for some reason I don't remember anything about Kulwicki.

Dale and Rusty holding flags for Davey and Kulwicki at the end of the 93 season(Dale was champion, Rusty won the last race) for their victory lap is still a goosebump moment

And yes it was helicopter crash for Davey. He crashed while landing at Talladega for a test session

And then that damn yankee Jeff Gordon came along and ruined everything.
