I disagree heavily. Two high usage guards who are elite offensively but bad defensively, mixed with zero other great/all star caliber players and mediocre group of role players can’t get it done.

The team Dirk was surrounded with were great veteran role players that all provided something different plus they had an elite defensive center. That era of teams was also the real start of the super team. Since that season, the champion has been basically a superteam or with 3 HOFers/all stars with a few exceptions. That same Dallas team would have lost to the Heat a year or two later when they finally played up to their potential.

The Mavericks have made some pretty big strides defensively, over the last 20 games they are 9th in the league in defensive rating. I'm not saying the Mavs will get it done this season but Kyrie will be good for another 2-3 seasons at the minimum and the Mavs could continue to make good trades. They have way more to work with than they did even a year ago and I want to see if they get anything done by the trade deadline, and then in this offseason.

No doubt they have been playing better defensively as of late, but it is still a small stretch. I don’t think we actually disagree on this, I thought you were saying this current team could win it all rather than Luka/Kyrie as the foundation.

You’re right, with good trades and staying healthy, I think they can succeed with the right guys but from the start of the season I’ve said this roster isn’t good enough. Remember how I said guys like OMax and whoever the other rookie drafted would be huge unknowns and Richaun Holmes is a glorified 3rd center at best? Unfortunately that’s correct. I do like how Jones and Lively are good complementary pieces though.

Jones and DLive have been pretty damn complimentary so far, also Exum has been out and he has been surprisingly good at creating his own shot this season.

Lol. Such a heavy load he needed multiple years off during his prime to manage. Very few "GOATS" in any occupation have shown such little mental fortitude. Its not surprising that the biggest can on this site worships the mentally weak

Lol at MartCan shitting her diapers.

<36>

Stick to the CFL and pretending you're relevant in your igloo. Lmao.

Not sure why days later you want to try and argue again lmao. But yes, very easy to counter when you can’t even back up what you say when I ask you to elaborate or provide quotes of things I’ve supposedly said. Don’t worry it’s easy to keep score when it’s entirely one sided lol.

Just move on like Muster and you’ll be fine.
Omg, you're a sad, petty little man.. yes your last 5 or so posts barely elaborated on anything basketball, just pettily patting yourself on the back for 'winning' a supposed beef that I'm not even participating in.. very weird and childish.. and yes I've replied days later, because I have a life and shit to do, clown ass..

Mad with insults and always wrong yikes. Hell of a combination! You wrote a whole paragraph saying I didn’t elaborate “on anything basketball” yet here you are with a zero substance post name calling and acting pissy. Tack on hypocrite to the list lmao. Have fun with your “shit to do.” Im sure you’ll respond randomly 3 days later

I hear Mavs are interested in Siakam.

Would be a great 3rd option that could also play as a facilitator when the bench unit is out there. He could really focus on the other side of the ball, however I doubt Mavs can pull it off because Masai wants a ransom and I'm not sure what assets Mavs even have.

Personally I think they should throw down their picks and just go for it if Siakam wants to be part of a sign and trade.

It would be quite the mix of hilarious and cruel if they pulled off a big trade and completely tanked again like they did last year.

Siakam is the exact type of decent two way player they need. They lack a great stretch forward that can do both. When the roster was finalized I brought up the point that the team is essentially filled with the same type of player that plays sg/sf and do nothing but score. It’s a big reason they have been bad defensively a lot of the season. Guys like Exum, Green, Hardaway, Curry, Hardy and Lawson are good as complementary pieces but one team with all of these guys doesn’t make much sense. All provide the same thing on the court lol.

I feel like Mavs scored huge on the Lively pick and its paying off. If they hadn't had such piss poor asset management in the past they could have traded for OG and then they'd be a strong contender.
Lively was definitely a good pickup and filled a much needed hole on the team. Unfortunately he can’t stay healthy and the Mavs have zero quality centers outside of him, so he needs to stay healthy for them to be relevant.

MPJ killing it tonight 25 8 5 7-11 from 3. Jokic 25 12 9, 12 for 13 shooting. Murray 25 8 Gordon 19 10. This is how it looks like when all starters show up bigly. Pacers were missing Hali but im still happy about the effort. Looked troubling at half with Jokic with 3 fouls already.

Would be great, but not sure the Mavs would be willing to give up what would be required and then the second problem is Siakam wants to go to a team that will then sign him to a big bag. Being the Mavs are already paying Luka/Kyrie, not sure they can offer Siakam what he is going to want for the long term. Especially considering when Luka's contract is up the Mavs are going to have to pay him maybe the biggest contract in NBA history.

For sure, but I think he's only missed 4 games this season, might have just been a bit of bad luck. Also keep in mind he's only 19 years old and will hopefully grow into his body some over the next few seasons.

I feel like it still may be the best chance at the Mavs putting together an actual title contention window. Either maximize Kyrie, Luka and Siakam for a good 3-4 years and mortgage the future, or just chill in mediocrity between the 6th spot and play ins and try to work the margins for undiscovered gems or rehabbing players who have under performed and hope you get a hot run like 2011.

The problem, as I see it, is in the NBA you can't make championship runs without a deep bench and to get Siakam the Mavs would have to deplete their already thin bench. BTW the Suns are learning this the hard way right now. They sacrificed their bench for KD/Booker/Beal but goodluck with that.
